Draft

Recommended Posts

@OP - "The NFL Draft" forum next time?

DT - Evander Hood, Ron Brace, Terril Byrd (I watched the Cinci bowl game looking at CBs and this guy stood out, going into draft season he's rated as a 7th/undrafted, but he looks a lot better than most of the projected mid round picks I looked at. I do not like Fila Moala, overrated because of the quality of the players around him IMO.

DE - Still haven't seen anybody that jumps out at me in the 6-4+/270+ range. Assuming we can't get Orakpo. We've got pass rush specialists in Taylor and Brinkley.

CB - I like the Cincinatti twins, DeAngelo Smith and Mike Mickens (watched Mickens today at senior bowl practice and he still doesn't look 100 percent, we could get a deal with this guy, use him as a nickel at first and start him in his second year) The 3rd Cinci corner/safety Brandon Underwood looked like dogmeat as a corner at the shrine bowl. He's a pretty good FS prospect though, if he's smart enough to learn the position. He transferred from Ohio State to Cinci because of academics, had to make up 42 hous in the off season to be eligible this year.

QB - Tom Brandstater/Fresno St looked good at the shrine bowl. Brian Hoyer/Michigan St and Stephen Mcgee/Texas A&M also looked okay. Chase Daniel looked worse than any of the 3 above. Even Hunter Caldwell looked better. Brandstater has all the physical tools, needs coaching, would be good competition to Moore and McCown. Would not start his first year. I also think Sanchez is too green to start his first year, great talent, but somebody is going to ruin it by paying him too much and starting him too soon. Just like Leinert, only worse. Slightly overrated, but still the best QB in this class. I'm looking forward to seeing the other QBs this week in the senior bowl.

TE - Bear Pascoe/Fresno St. Man among boys at the shrine bowl. Having his college QB throw to him didn't hurt though. Does all the little things well, unlike our current #2.

WR - agree with Brain Hartline, very deep draft at this position. There is quality all the way through to the 7th.

OL - Herman Johnson, LSU (pipe dream). A couple of the guys on Ole Miss's line stood out during the bowl game. Peria Jerry's bigger little brother John is available next year for one. LSU and Mississipi both have huge o-linemen. Waiting on senior bowl practice for my first look at some of the better prospects here.

There are 3 young TEs on the roster, including one(Barnidge) that if they gave him a chance could be a game changer, I would be shocked to see a TE drafted.

I'm not sold on Rosario. Way too many mental mistakes for his second year. Occaisional lack off effort. A lot of people like him. I don't. I see a situation similar to Carter/Colbert/Seidman here. Teasing potential that never delivers. It was obvious as the year went on, the Rosario fell out of favor with the coaching staff, but Barnige still didn't get any playing time at TE. Hmm, wonder why? Maybe he isn't all that. I do agree that they will probably try to hang on to him too long without giving him any kind of legitimate shot.

Bear Pascoe will most likely be available in the 5th round or later. He is a complete tight end, probably a better blocker and reciever than King. Cake and eat it too situation here with low risk draft pick.

*and*

And if they do not re-sign Jeff King? Or lose him on a low tender?

With no regard to draft position, here's who I would like to see in the uniform:

QB - Mark Sanchez

DE - Everett Brown

DE - Michael Johnson

WR - Brandon Tate

WR - Hakeem Nicks

WR - Percy Harvin

CB- Alphonso Smith

We really need a good DT, but I personally dont know enough about the better prospects at that position at this point.

I would take Tate, Harvin, and Hartline. We will have quite a few picks once Peppers is traded, at least 3(hopefully 4). Could be an eventful draft. Could that 1st acquired in a Peppers trade then be spun for another 1st later in the round and a different late round pick?

    • Olsen was with Chicago 3 or 4 years and took a while to bloom. I remember wishing we could get him at 25 n 2007 but we took Beason. Couldn’t complain about that. I would really love to get a Jon Beason level ILB this draft.  We have 4-5 other positions that could really use some 1st round talent.  I feel like there will be someone at 19 at one of those positions with talent comparable to Sadiq.  I am not gonna argue individuals really, I have done no research. Just philosophy. Address the holes unless it just isn’t close.
    • The Raiders have completed a second interview with Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The team has complied with the Rooney Rule after interviewing Evero and former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, who appears headed to the Chargers as offensive coordinator. That allows the Raiders to hire a new coach at any time. Evero has served as the Panthers’ defensive coordinator since 2023, first taking the job under former head coach Frank Reich. While Carolina finished at the bottom of the league defensively in 2024, Evero helped turn the unit around to finish No. 16 in yards and No. 15 in points allowed in 2025. Evero has coordinated two top-10 defenses — first with what the Broncos in 2022 (No. 7 in yards allowed) and then with the Panthers in 2023 (No. 4 in yards allowed). He has also worked for the 49ers, Packers and Rams. The Raiders also have Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, 49ers offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak, Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula and Broncos quarterbacks coach Davis Webb among their candidates. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/raiders-complete-second-interview-with-panthers-dc-ejiro-evero
