another oddity.. my wife had bad carpal tunnel before she got stung by a scorp in her hand. now she swears she has no pain what so ever.

either the scorp sting hurt that much, or theres some research that needs to be done.

This time of year in NC, you'll start seeing a lot more spiders in your houses... People often freak out about them, especially large fishing spiders, but all are relatively harmless... They will make you hurt yourself more than they can hurt you...

That said, I found a Black Widow in my garage this past Friday... I guess it is time to clean out the garage...

I've got those pretty bad around my home... I've seen them in tree stumps while mowing the grass, found one in the paper section of the mailbox, found one living on the inside of the shed door, and now found one in the garage...

My dad has been bitten by one, but didn't have to get the antivenin... I hope I never go through what he went through pain-wise with that... said it felt like his whole body was in a vise and someone was turning the crank...

I've never seen a brown recluse in the wild that I can recall... Those are even nastier...

ive never seen a recluse, either.

as far as the widows, they scare me me more than anything due to my heart condition.

Yeah, black widows and brown recluses are pretty common here in NC, but the widows usually don't harm an adult too bad, just a lot of pain. Recluses on the other hand... those little fugers are bad news... their venom kills your flesh.

I was out doing some field work about two years ago finding survey monuments and found one that was broken... I kicked it and a piece fell off and there was one living in the crack... it was about 1" in diameter... biggest one I've ever seen. If she bit you, you'd be in trouble I bet.

The biggest thing about recluses are that their bites often go unnoticed until the damage is done...

You'll get sore for a day or so, and then before you know it, you have a nice soup underneath your skin...

Thankfully, neither of these spiders end up being so deadly in most cases...
