One thing I could see changing is the saefty poistion, Chris Harris I believe will flourish under meeks as will godfrey. I mean for years this man coached bob sanders and Bathea. With that said, I think our front four will have to change, now that we have guarenteed a 4 man rush for most of the game we will have to get solid bookends. (Freeny, mathis) We cant come out there with charles, dlew, kemo and brayton and expect to apply any kind of pressure can we? I excpect some real big free agent signings. Possibly letting Gross walk, cutting lucas, goings etc. and signing haynesworth and suggs. If we lose pep and dont get a high priced de or dt with this system we wont go anywhere. But seeing the talent in indy, I excpect some changes.

Gross does not walk because of a Defensive Policy. Cover-2 or Tampa-2 (yes they're different) can be played with low "value" players. Many underrated players flourish under the scheme. I personally think C. Johnson moves inside fulltime. Brayton and Incumbent on the outside. Kemo and Lewis rotating. We won't be making a huge splash in free agency, but a Tampa-2 defense doesn't call for first round talent on the defensive line. You don't need it. Look for D-line in 2-3 round and probably again in the later rounds. We might see a Linebacker drafted too. Seward walks, Conner takes his place in the middle. I think James Anderson sticks around for backup to Thomas Davis. Our Linebackers should really flourish in whatever scheme Meeks provides. If this so-called pep trade occurs (however it occurs) we may get some needed picks for other positions as well.

Wouldn't it make more sense to put Brayton inside instead of Johnson if we were to do that? I mean, given he has experience playing DE himself?

It's just a feeling, I have nothing to back it up with. But yeah, it probably would. Although I see Brayton as more of a DE Athlete than someone who can fight through guards.

none of those players were big free agent signs...more like middle of the road were we like to pick up free agents

Lucas lead the NFC in Ints the season before we picked him up. Hartwig was considered the best Lineman in FA.

Most people would consider them big signings, seeing as they were both flourishing as top players on their teams.

But I guess to you big signings means the best player in the league.

Some people just don't understand.

Edit: Oh, and Kemo was one of the under appreciated center pieces of one of the top Defenses in the leagues for several years, even Ray Lewis can attest to that and thats good enough for me, idk about you though.

yea and the lions have been saying that about the Tampa 2 for years, "all we need is system guys" thats gotten tham no where. Look at tampa, I mean they used a second overall (i think maybe 3rd) on gaines adams, simeon rice was in that system for years, derrick brooks, warren sapp era. You DO need big names to run the tampa 2 sucessfully, rhonde barber, john lynch the list goes on.

    • Even if you concede that Bryce gets better as the season goes on you cant have a QB that just surrenders the first 2 games and the next 4 or 5 are iffy
    • I understand very clearly that Wilks’ approach in ‘22 wasn’t going to make us able to beat the better teams, but he got us competing and succeeding against the teams we should beat, similar teams to us. And it felt the best any stretch has felt, under Tepper.  But Tepper and the mob here had to have themselves the Offensive Minded HC, play caller guru. How’s that working out?    I know this: guys in the locker room were all about Wilks. He equaled or bested the win total of every other coach under Tepper before or since. It is a fact, and not for nothin.    FWIW I didn’t think he was gifted as a DC, when he was here as the DC. But he was excellent coaching DBs. All those jobs are different I guess, take different skill sets. I think his strength as a HC was getting people to follow him. That goes a long way.  After what has befallen this team since rejecting him, I don’t feel like a lesser fan for supporting him, I promise you that.
    • Since you also posted the Denver game, worth pointing out thumbing do anything for three quarters after the first drive until Denver went into garbage (Bryce) time.  They got a meaningless late touchdown to make it a 14 point and give Bryce some yards.  Since we’re moving into superlatives, they weren’t competitive at all in that game.  and Bryce also got complete outshone by Bo Nix and anyone with pride would retire after that.
