2011--The Year of Coaching Changes??

We could see a year with one of the most jobs at stake that I can remember. Off the top of my head

AFC East:

- Miami- you have to believe that seat is hot.

AFC West:

-Denver- obvious new coach

-San Diego- I don't think it will happen, but anything is possible in the NFL.

AFC North:

-Browns- they are improved, but there is always a revolving coaching door in Cleveland

Cincinati- see Denver

AFC South:

-Tennessee- Jeff Fisher is GONE. If he isn't fired, he'll take his option.

-Jacksonville- They had a good year, but Del Rio has been on the hot seat for the past 4 years

-Houston- no playoff births

NFC East:

New York Giants- Coughlin will resign/retire or get fired if they don't win next week (and/or if they get embarrassed in the first round)

Dallas- Still a question mark, I think Garrett gets the job

NFC Mess, I mean West:

San Fransisco- see Denver

Cardinals- originally I hS never thought about this, and I still don't think Wisenhunt will be fired, but this team is pretty bad. This one goes in the San Diego "anything can happen in the NFL" category.

NFC North:

Minnesota- I'm back and forth on this one. Theres a good chance Fraizer is retained, but for some reason I think he could bounce.

NFC South:

Carolina- see Denver, Cincy and San Fran.

So by my count, that is 14 possible changes. Should make for a interesting 2011.

true, i gave them all the benefit of the doubt because of improvements, but as I said, anything can happen in the NFL.

My only hope is the Panthers move quickly before quality candidates are taken off the board.

But I expect static out of BOFA and little movement early as other teams lock up their head coaches. :(

So, when Spanos, who has been in charge of the franchise since father Alex handed him the wheel in 1994, says head coach Norv Turner and General Manager A.J. Smith will return in 2011, he almost seems incredulous, amazed that he has to be asked.

Public opinion aside, it’s his team to run. Turner and Smith will return. This is not an election ticket. One vote matters.

“I’ve learned the hard way,” Spanos said. “Your GM and coach have to be two individuals who work together. It’s very difficult for some teams; I’ve been through it. I like the working relationship at this level.

“We’re as disappointed as anyone. But I look to 1996 to 2003, when we couldn’t even get (beyond) 8-8. We’ve turned it around, to where we’re a good team and a good organization. There’s a lot of continuity, but we’re still short.

“The easiest thing in the world is to start over. Who the hell do I go hire? Blow the whole thing up? We’re a pretty good team but we have to make the right moves. We’ve fallen. It could have been our draft picks or our free-agent moves. But we have a good core, and I don’t care what anybody says. I’m not afraid to make changes. If I thought it was warranted, I would do it. We have a good foundation here.”

      XL makes a list of sophomore breakout candidates

      Former league executive and current NFL.com analyst Marc Ross recently named his top second-year breakout candidates for the upcoming campaign. Ross includes Legette, who may be helped out by his team's latest first-round selection. He writes: Legette had a slow start to his NFL career, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns last season. Some of the struggles can be tied to his own growing pains -- he had eight drops on 81 targets, according to Pro Football Focus -- but he had also had to navigate the quarterback shuffle between Bryce Young and Andy Dalton early in Dave Canales' first season leading the Panthers. Canales recently said he believes Carolina has a DK Metcalf-like talent in Legette, who had foot surgery this offseason but was cleared to resume work in early April, and that having a full offseason alongside Young, who took a significant step forward in 2024, could lead to a breakout result in 2025. I anticipate it will also help that Carolina invested another first-round pick in a wide receiver, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, to complement Legette in the pass game. McMillan's presence, however, could take some pressure off Legette—who may be able to roam around in a more natural playmaking role.       my understanding is a big time throw, could be a 5-10 yard slant to Adam Thielen given AT isn't going to separate.
