Justify why Cam Newton isn't worth #1 overall?

Well Im more interested in his wonderlic and what scouts have to say about him after. You best believe they will test to see if he can take snaps under center and it would not hurt if he could prove that at this pro day.

yeah, true the wonderlic is something to look at. Didnt Vince Young get a 6 on it (at first) then get a 13, OUCH. hope Cam doesnt try to cheat on it, hahaha, sorry had to throw in a joke. Anyways, the wonderlic usually doesnt matter, but i think (for some people) it will matter here. if he gets a 13, then people will question if he's smart enough. as for the test to see if he can take snaps under center, THAT is what i will follow. The Golden Calf of Bristol (at the senior bowl) SUCKED there, BUT he later showed much more improvement.

I was def on the Luck bandwagon before he decided to go back to Stanford but after watching Newton and seeing his stats i feel he can be a good QB in this league. I think he want be great right away but in a few years he will be a headache for defenses. The only think I worry about is the system he comes from. That will hurt him more then anything.

yep, trust me, i dont think Newton will suck, i just dont think he will be as ready as people think. i cant see him coming in and winning 10 games and taking us to the playoffs, i think he could struggle worse than Freeman did in his rookie year, but i think in time, he could be great, he has potential and once he gets used to the NFL speed and doesn't run the ball 10 times or more in the nfl and passes with consistancy, then he should be great. i was on the Luck bandwaggon because he reminded me so much of Elway.

I think Luck has the better chance in the pros, Cam would need a whole offensive gameplan built around him to be successful, not saying coaches wouldnt do that for him. Luck can probably fill in at any QB vacancy.

Its clear that Luck is more polished and comes from a better system. Still Newton has all the tools to not need a "gameplan" Built around him. The only question about Newton is that can he take a snap under center and can he make good decisions. The later is what all teams wonder before picking a QB. I will be really interesting to see if Luck dose as well under a new head coach this year. We will get to see if it was the wagon or the horse so to speak.

JR doesnt have enough money to pay cams dad for him to come here

Lol, that's what I've been saying. He might want 70 million guaranteed.

I will say it for the 3453452345345 time. Rookie pay scale will be in place when we make our pick. We cant sign anyone till the new CBA is done.

    • Former league executive and current NFL.com analyst Marc Ross recently named his top second-year breakout candidates for the upcoming campaign. Ross includes Legette, who may be helped out by his team's latest first-round selection. He writes: Legette had a slow start to his NFL career, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns last season. Some of the struggles can be tied to his own growing pains -- he had eight drops on 81 targets, according to Pro Football Focus -- but he had also had to navigate the quarterback shuffle between Bryce Young and Andy Dalton early in Dave Canales' first season leading the Panthers. Canales recently said he believes Carolina has a DK Metcalf-like talent in Legette, who had foot surgery this offseason but was cleared to resume work in early April, and that having a full offseason alongside Young, who took a significant step forward in 2024, could lead to a breakout result in 2025. I anticipate it will also help that Carolina invested another first-round pick in a wide receiver, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, to complement Legette in the pass game. McMillan's presence, however, could take some pressure off Legette—who may be able to roam around in a more natural playmaking role. With the 6-foot-4 All-American likely to take on the bulk of the volume from Young, Legette should have some cleaner shots to break out downfield and in the box score.     https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/06/panthers-wr-xaiver-legette-top-breakout-candidates-2025/83475176007/?taid=681a4610ede05d000149b376&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter
