In general I think that the fan sentiment for players to be coaches just because they were good players is categorically wrong. In Proehl's case, though, I think it might be right.

If he gets the job it would be an interesting choice and could turn out to make someone in our FO look pretty damn smart.

Said it elsewhere, it depends on the type of player.

Hypertalented superstar player generally equates to lousy coach.

Smart, hard-working moderately talented player that maximizes what he has? That guy can morph into a good coach.

      He gets good catches and circus catches, he fugs up both with regularity. Not to mention he is atrocious at getting open. He will never be even a mediocre WR because doesn't care to be one.

      You didn't have to drop AT. Even in hindsight, there is not a single logical argument or excuse for why they did what they did. The true answer, is that they were stupid. Just plain, regular real world stupid.
