Panthers Bringing in Newton for Visit

Auburn-Newton= No chance at NC

Auburn-Fairley= Still a chance but of course not guaranteed.

I think his point was without Newton Aurburn would have been what it was for years, middle of the road. He's right IMO it probably was one of the best seasons for a college QB in history (I wont say the best but it was up there)

I agree with 50% of your post. Even though Im an ACC fan...it was still nice to see them win it for the SEC.

Winning championships is a team thing isn't it? In college it matters even less since the national championship is decided by some computer.

Those guys all dominated Cam statistically and they it's clear they had better seasons.

Are you going to answer whether you think Dan Marino is better than Joe Montana or just deflect the question that ends you whole debate?

So Dan Marino is better than Joe Montana. He dominated him statistically. Good to know for your future credibility. Wilt Chamberlain is better than Bill Russell/Michael Jordan.

I thought we judged people on championships.

So Cam doesn't get any credit for winning a national championship?

Yea. But he didnt do it by himself...I think none of the above should be given credit for winning a national championship. Would you agree that Drew Brees won the SB for the Saints?

Yea we all know Cam and his amazing feet won the championship! It had nothing to do Fairley and that stud D. /sarcasm

It's amazing how people so quickly forgets that Auburn's defense was actually pretty average an at times down right bad.

They were 53rd in points allowed. Some of that is their offensive style but Oregon played a similar style in the far superior Pac-10 (according to TRD) and was 12th in the nation in points allowed.

So.... defense didn't win them the national championship.

Im glad you find me amazing.

You might as well not put a defense on the field ...Cam will pick up the slack.

So Trent Dilfer is better than Marino just because he won a Superbowl?

I'm assuming your talking about the without Newton they had no shot. My ? to you is how many QB's in NCAA history have even close to Newton's ability? I would say close to none. The guy was straight up unstoppable it seemed.

Now does that guarantee success at the next level? Of course not but neither does what Luck did at Stanford and yet he is hyped as the best qb in decades. The bottom line to me is he brings to the table the 3 things I want in a franchise QB.

1: Work Ethic: Every team member and coach for both of his last 2 stops (Blinn and Auburn) praises his relentless work ethic. 2: Leadership: All his teammates and coaches (and even kids he has mentored since at Auburn) loves being in the same room or field as him. 3: Physical Ability: To me he is a once in a lifetime athlete at the QB position. He kind of reminds me of Pep in that he is one of those rare athletes that could probably excel at any position on the field. And forget the speed or mobility and he still has a rocket laugher for an arm and tremendous deep ball placement (could be huge for the O we are trying to implement) and a absolutely towering size (he easily shrugs off would be tacklers and can see over any line).

To me he has the most upside of any QB in recent memory. But of course he also has bust potential but I just think it is time this team took a risk and stopped running scared when it came to the QB position.

You definitely cant rule out work ethic as a nice trait. Jake Delhomme was a master at work ethic...he just didnt have the skills ( and no Im not comparing the 2)

no, what he was meaing was that although BB was the coach and he views cam as one way. his qb views him another way. and basically you can be a winner on the stats page, but if you cant win the big one who gives a fug about you.

The amount of teams that have won without an elite QB are few and far between.

A lot of people blamed Jake for our troubles two years ago. QB gets the credit and the blame. It comes with the job. So he should get extra credit for going undefeated and winning a national championship.

Otherwise, the 2007 Patriots is the second best team in NFL history. would you agree with that??

He should get SOME credit yes. Jake wouldnt have done it without SS89 though.

And Cam Newton has little marble balls compared to Tom Brady and his watermelon nuts, plus his legion of WRs. And I believe they had a nice ground attack as well...

    • I'm not saying it shouldn't be a part of his game it should be present yes. But expecting 500/10 in the rushing category is not sustainable IMO. All it's going to take is a defender to be willing to sacrifice a penalty or a fine to send a message just as the Falcons did with Sam Darnold. And even as big and durable as Cam was defenses eventually started to try to send a message to him too. We have to be realistic about not putting our QB at unnecessary risk. Especially given the fact we aren't even willing to run a QB sneak with him. We've also invested a good bit in our backfield that's what they're there for. And furthermore ultimately whatever QB  tier Bryce Young ends up landing in over the course of his career it is going to be defined by what he does as a passer not his rushing ability. That's all I'm saying.
    • Bryce had 191 yards 55% completion 1 td 1 pick.  That's an amazing performance?   Come on people
    • His footwork has been discussed many times over related to not just within the pocket but the quality of his drop backs and how while his receivers have been an issue his own footwork has created issues with his receivers. It is a mutual give and take dynamic after all. As far as his deep passing goes I will happily admit I saw some very impressive long throws from Bryce later in the season and I said so at the time and I'm still saying so now. That doesn't mean that there still aren't issues and beyond some instances of him flat out missing receivers deep that he knows he needs to get corrected I think there are still some throws to the sideline that defenses are going to test Bryce on early and often and until he can prove he can beat defenses on those throws consistently they will play him the same way. As far as talk of Bryce being top ten and the metrics that define that different people are going to have different answers and I've said before after the conclusion of the 2024 season that I'm going to try to put yardage aside in some cases and just focus on what Bryce is doing both between the 20's moving the ball and how our redzone scoring percentage is looking. The biggest thing I'm looking for this season is scoring points. Not just field goals. Touchdowns. If the offense is moving consistently and reaching the end zone more often than not and not squandering drives and settling for field goals then I am going to be content for the time being. I do not expect miracles this season. I expect development and competiveness on both sides of the ball but particularly the offense trending upward given the investments we've made. And no blowout losses. I don't think that's an unreasonable ask do you agree? 🫡
