CBA talks resume today: <72 hours till the deadline

Less than 72 hours before the NFL's collective bargaining agreement expires, the league and the players' union were scheduled to resume negotiations in front of a federal mediator.

There was no telling whether the sides would fare any better Tuesday than they did over seven consecutive days of talks that wrapped up last week — and left the league's owners and the NFL Players Association far apart on the major issues.

When it comes to the NFL, it's all one big guessing game at the moment.

"Everything is hypothetical right now," new San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said. "I'm just optimistic we can get something done."

The CBA expires at midnight as Thursday becomes Friday on the East Coast, and the owners could lock out the players immediately. Even before that, though, the union could decertify — essentially, declare itself out of the business of representing players — and let the players take their chances in court.

Because we have the #1 pick, I'd be willing to say the next 72 hours will determine our team's future more than anything else has in the last decade.

they need to honestly just stop. None of the owners are there so lets cut the bull poo and get on with it.

The NFLPA is going to try to de certify and the NFL has put in a formal complaint with the National labor board saying they haven't tried to negotiate in good faith that they wanted to de certify all along. The NFL is right, and the labor board needs to get off its lazy ass and rule.

That said, I doubt the labor board will as they favor unions, so the NFLPA will De Certify giving the NFL EXACTLY what they wanted. The players will try to sue but there is nothing to sue for. So, the players can play under what the NFL will force feed to them or else.

Either way, the owners are going to win this, sooner or later. I just want them to get it over with so we can have football. In the end that is all the FAN gives a poo about.

they are not going to get anything done.....the owners want the players to go backwards in time and the NFLPA is dicking around trying to take everything to court.....they dont care about getting a deal done they just want to decertify in hope that the courts will block the owners from locking them out.........sadly is some lawyer type poo

And the courts won't because the NFLPA agreed to the opt out clause knowing a lockout would happen if someone opted out.

Nah. We draft then time stands still essentially. No biggie.

Uh... no... Free Agency absolutely affects the draft.

If things were "normal", Free Agency would start around in the coming week. In that time, we could negotiate trade options factoring in the draft. Without a CBA, we don't have a cap set. The contracts for the players aren't going to move.

So we can't for example, shop Deangelo Williams for a couple draft slots.

Blackcat, this was addressed a couple weeks ago by Fox or CBS or someone. When asked many of the GM's were hoping the draft would be first and FA 2nd not only this year but from now on.

And we couldn't shop DWill anyway, he is a free agent. You can only shop guys under contract.

Months ago they said lottery, a few weeks ago and since then they have said it stays the same. If we play a season then it's moot, we go with how teams end.
