Compensatory Picks: We Got 3 More!

That's for Peppers right? I don't know how these really work. From what I understand we get the Bears 3rd rounder for Peppers? Correct me if I'm wrong

Well, since you ask I will correct you....Yes you are WRONG.

You do not receive another team's pick as a compensatory pick. They are additional picks rewarded to a team to compensate them for net losses they expexpeienced during the previous year's free agency. The league looks at the production that you lost in FA as compared to the production that you acquired in FA. A third round compensatory pick is the highest that is rewarded.

A compensatory pick is added to the end of the round awarded. For instance, our 3rd round Comp pick is after all regular 3rd round picks are made.

The team acquiring the FA does not lose a pick...thus there is not pick lost by the Bears.

Hope this helps.

No, you get picks for LOSING Free agents. Signing them hurts you getting any picks.

I think the NFL did away with awarding 2nd round picks and start in the 3rd round now and it looks like we got the highest possible 3rd rounder.

EDIT: Hatter posted about the same time I did and did a better job :-)
