i had this problem too yesterday. it was called MS removal tool and looked like a real thing. popped up in my bottom tray saying my computer was infected and started running something. wanted credit card info to remove it all. couldnt open anything so i had to go to safe mode and get rid of it. more annoying than anything.

i just bought a samsung laptop because my toshiba broke for the second time in a year, both times were hardware related (HDD crash and motherboard fried) so with the new one I have I really limit the sites I visit anyway.

too bad it spread into safe mode Darth because I would've suggested to do a system restore through safe mode. I fixed a computer this way when one of them got a system tool virus (fuging myspace) and I thought that was a pain in the ass

Try "ComboFix".

I deal with Malware week in and week out. Sometimes the more aggressive attacks codes root kit intrusions, and Malware Bytes doesn't remove that level of infection.

So far, I've only had one machine, out of the dozen or so I've run it on, that ComboFix couldn't clean up.

Its good but it does not play well with antivirus software.
