Kiper: Panthers Should Trade Down

even hurney has been talking about needing to find a QB...he's said this almost any chance he's gotten...he may still believe in clausen but he's not stupid, he can't just assume clausen will get it together...not based off what clausen did last year at least...clausen was fool's gold that fell into hurney's lap and hurney was fooled

But....everyone here assumes that those comments mean we are definitely taking a QB at #1 in the draft.

We may be looking at making a FA move or a trade move.

^We assume that because we are giving Cam a very serious look and Coach Rivera and our GM seem high on him

I would be surprised if Cam is not the pick. Like CRA stated he's been constantly speaking on the NEED to have a franchise QB so has Hurney. imo I think Rivera has more pull he wanted a TE they went out and got Shockey.

I wonder if these reports coming from guys thinking we will apply the same decision making as the Fox era which would be to play it safe we will find out soon enough. April 28th can't come quick enough.

i don't think he's definitely drafting a QB but i do think it's something he is seriously considering with the circumstances...we can't trade for a QB and can't sign any FA's (which there are none worth signing)...the quickest and easiest way right now is to draft one and begin developing him...hurney can't wait forever to fix the QB position...he needs to do something about it ASAP...then comes in the question of if newton can develope into a franchise QB...i think he can, you obviously feel differently

You are assuming that because you WANT Cam to be the pick.

Salivate over every article mentioning Cam....discredit any article that says anything negative about Cam.

And you are assuming it's speculation/smokescreens when positive news is reported you're point? I find it funny as hell y'all call us out for thinking it's realistic that he could really be high on our big board though...

only article I question and go out on a limb to discredit is the Nawrocki one. The fake smile not being sincere stuff mainly because he hasn't stepped foot in a room with him. I see negative comments about Cam's accuracy/arm in general which I disagree with I think those aspects of his game are underrated but I am not blind to see that he still needs to put in work.

I am not assuming that he will be the pick or he won't be the pick.

I understand that all of the speculation by the "experts" is just that ....speculation.

I understand that none of use, including all of the talking heads in the media are guessing.

I understand that Hurney and Richardson have NEVER shown their hand before making any move.

As such, I believe that Cam could be the pick and could jsut as easily not be the pick.

Has anyone thought about the Titans as a possible trade partner? It would depend on what they think will be available at their spot, but they need a QB and haven't really been talked about as far as the "these teams are going to draft a QB" as much as you would think they should

I agree this to be the best option, but the compensation may not be what we expect if it is actually executed on draft day. If we do trade down, I prefer it to be in order to target either Green or Peterson if we're still in the top-5, if in the top-12, Julio or Prince.

To put this in some perspective, we could get better compensation if we go after a Prince/Julio situation and consequentially try to nab Mallet or Locker (I know this may pain people to think about) if they fall to the top of the 2nd or if we make another move to the tail end of the 1st.

But I think what scenario many people may pass on is if something between the owners & players is settled so that players can be moved...I could then honestly see us trying to trade with the Skins to go after McNabb and ****** up Julio/Prince with their 1st. That could be a very interesting scenario. Enough daydreamin for me today ;)

    • Not really. It all depends upon perspective. You can draft quality OTs high every year. They have one of the lowest bust rates by position. DTs, less so, but good ones still come along at a regular clip. With WRs, it's simply best to draft one in the first round if you want a legit play maker. Moreover, WR is going to set you back more than OT or DT at really all statuses, meaning JAG receivers are going to make more than JAG OTs and DTs, and elite receivers will make substantially more than elite OTs or DTs. I would also argue that it's much harder to find a franchise level OT or DT that can have an altering impact upon the game. So, if you don't believe they can, you may as well wait for day 2 or 3. That's why sticking to your board is probably the wisest thing to do. If you're not committed that the value is there, then what are you doing? Lastly, I don't think you should necessarily draft in a vacuum, but you must look at each team from year to year. People want to make them the same, but they're different. You have to start over every year and identify where the strengths and weaknesses are. You can't say, "Well we drafted [so and so] last year or two years ago, so we'll just draft this this year." That's not realistic and it can be highly counterproductive, especially in light of the reason that you should be trying to use FA to set up the draft.
    • If you read through his stuff, he's had a raging hate-boner for the Carolina Panthers the likes of which would make many long-tenured Huddlers blush. Every win was "yeah but" and every loss was "see I told you so".
    • Let me preface this by saying I've read WalterFootball on and off for 20 years. That's an indictment on my decision-making, and it's more than fair to be questioned.  However, the days of reading what's become weak ragebait have drawn to a close after he re-graded the 2025 NFL Draft's first round. He gave T-Mac a C on draft night. What was his re-grade for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year?  Carolina Panthers: Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona – C Grade One-Year Grade: C+ Grade Tetairoa McMillan won Offensive Rookie of the Year, but only by default after Emeka Egbuka vanished in the second half of the season. McMillan was good, and was certainly limited by Bryce Young’s mediocrity, but there are still concerns about his work ethic and passion for football. If he doesn’t progress in the coming years, we’ll know why. Original Write-up: Wow, our Panthers source did not pan out for once. Jalon Walker was heavy chalk to go here, but the Panthers decided to draft a No. 1 receiver instead. While this fills a need, I’m concerned with Tetairoa McMillan’s work ethic, which is something you never want to hear from a first-round prospect, especially one who is chosen in the top 10. Bryce Young needs this, and McMillan is talented, but will he give 100 percent at the next level? Also, what about the defense, which was the worst in the NFL last year? https://walterfootball.com/nfldraftgrades2025.php
