Can Cam be the Pick?

I really think when April 28 get here the panthers will select Quarterback Cam Newton. The reason why is because we have the best opportunity to pick up a Good quarterback. I have no problem with taking Marcell dareus or Patrick Peterson or AJ green. But our biggest need is quarterback and we are in a good position to take the best one. I know there is alot of people on this board do not want us to take Newton. But when Andrew Luck was thinking about coming out people was like we can pass up on taking a potential franchise quarterback. And you should feel the same way about Newton because he can be a potential franchise Quarterback. But alot of people dont feel the way because of character issues and coming out of a one read offense.

If Im Ron Rivera and Hurney I am doing my homework day and night on all my prospects. I dont think what he does ont he field is what people question. What i think the questions is will he come in and be a gym rat and a film rat and do what it takes to be the best Quarterback and be the face of a franchise that had problems at the quarterback position since forever. I know that there is alot of anaylst that say we should trade down. But tradeing back is a bigger risk then drafting a Quarterback. Because there is a chance that we might not get one. And then people are going to look at us as been stupid because we didnt take one when we had the chance. Especially if that player works out.

You might as well face it; Cam talk is going to define this offseason for us. Even after we draft him the debate will still be raging.

If we draft Newton, even though I'm against it, I will support him 110% and will trust that Rivera and Hurney made the right decision. You can't be upset with whoever they decide to take, because Rivera is coming into his first head coaching job, he's doing everything he can to make sure it starts off right and that his career here lasts a very long time.

    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
    • Me, signing up for FanDuel Network, and then canceling FanDuel Network:
    • Smith-Wade for me. He has the path to some decent hefty snaps in Evero’s scheme. He held his own last year and improved as he continued to get snaps— If he makes some strides, could be a very capable nickel.  I agree with Sanders. Bryce had some trust in him that final Falcons game post crazy head-stand.  Bryce looked for him a lot that final game and made some critical catches to get us the W. Seems he’s put in major work so I’m hopeful about him.  Wallace will have an offseason under his belt. I like him a lot, was higher graded than most remember in his draft (I.e Brugler had him LB3/70 overall) but he isn’t as cerebral of an LB as we’re used to. I think he could thrive if we get D captain/film-junky type next to him— because right now that’s Jewell.  Still a bit cautious but love the talent. Rozeboom may snag some playing time from him if he’s still working out the kinks.
