btw I've gone back and rewatched the first episodes of the first season, and I think it is fairly obvious that Martin and the show's producers wanted to convey that Benjen Stark is Jon Snow's father... Not sure who his mom is, but at this point in the books, I'd guess she was a wildling north of the Wall, or a Targaryen... I think the whole Wyla thing was just something Ned made up to protect his brother's honor (not have him known as an oathbreaker), or to keep Robert from dashing young Jon's head against a wall for having dragon blood in him...

I didn't really get that feeling, but I see why you might have.

There are other options, many others... the most intriguing of which has to do with the name of the series itself...

don't scroll below if you don't want to see more theoretical spoilers...

Almost everyone buys into that theory now, though... so I bet that isn't it...

Seriously... go back and watch the interactions between Benjen and Jon on the show... It just seems pretty obvious that Benjen cares a lot more about Jon than he is letting on...

Could be good acting and nothing else, but I think there is more to it...

Never mind the fact that Benjen's past is still pretty much unknown at this point... even his reasoning for joining the NW in the first place...

With Ned so fixated on his honor and his family, it just makes it more plausible that he would take on his brother's bastard... and send his own brother to the Wall...

I'm really not sure that a Targaryen is his mom either... I know GRRM loves him some incest, but the Jon/Dany theory would basically mean that she'd be his aunt or cousin...

I'm also not convinced that ASOIAF literally translates to Stark/Targaryen...

MORE SPOILERS POSSIBLY

the reason I don't think it is benjen is that ned is always struggling internally with something about his sister. if it was just bringing her bones home, why so much angst about it? why did he feel like he'd kept secrets from his family? it's either his bastard or a terrible secret he's keeping.

if you're interested in the theory of R+L=J, check out this link http://www.westeros.org/Citadel/FAQ/Entry/2291/ and http://www.angelfire.com/ma4/mlarchives/faq/jon.html

also, examine the circumstances around what happens at the end of jon's last chapter. it fits in well with a certain prophecy. we'll know more next book, I hope. And remember, the dragon has three heads. ;)

edit final:

the series title likely has multiple meanings. it clearly revolves a great deal around the battle between the others and the fire god, but... it's also a line in the prophecy that Dany sees about the price that was promised, something about the babe being aegon, the song of ice and fire, and after looking at dany, saying there must be one more, as the dragon has three h eads. GRRM has apparently said the dragon heads need not actually be Targs.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
