Gross's deal worth 6 years ...

not 3 ... just reported on sportscenter

But basically its a 3 year deal. Base salaries are not worth the paper they are printed on in the NFL.

So if you look at the numbers and rumors that he is getting 30.5M in the first three years and his signing bonus is 22 to 24M, that means his base salaries in the first three years are 2 or 3M. (So the cap hit is about 6M in each of the first three years).

So that means his base salaries in the last three years are 9 or 10M each year. He will never see that money. He'll be cut or restructure before those base salaries are due.

Like I said before, these negotiations are all about the guaranteed money up front. Base salaries don't mean squat.

so we now have the highest paid defensive player in the league and the second highest ol in the league. cuts will deff be coming soon

Who is the highest paid defensive player in the league? It's not Peppers or Gamble...so I don't know who else it could be.

The deal is base salary front loaded according to the sources I've read. The 3 years 30.5 million is just in base salary over those years. His last three years will be dirt cheap though.

    • I would say the extremes from both camps in these conversations have to do with the blurring of the fact Bryce is a first overall pick and the expectations for that draft slot fair or not far exceed just being a top 20-25 starter amongst your peers. Regardless. All logical Panthers fans want him to be the answer.
    • The offseason is always when hope springs eternal. If you look past that, you can see a very bad roster with a lot more questions than definitive answers. Let's hope we get a lot of those right, because I think we are a lot closer to another impatient Tepper reset than we probably think.
    • These arguments are getting more and more disingenuous from both the pro and anti Bryce crowd. Bryce looked very good for stretches down the final 8 games. He finally showed glimpses of the guy that was projected as a top QB pick in the draft. Bryce also didn't look like a top 10 NFL QB.  I think we are so far removed from Prime Cam that we forget what an elite QB looks like. I could tell that when people were losing their minds and simping for Sam Darnold. This season needs to finally showcase Bryce as a franchise talent. If that doesn't happen, it's time to pivot. There are very few recent examples of QB's struggling or being a mixed bag through the first three seasons of starting and then suddenly becoming frachise caliber players.
