John Saunders 'parting shots' on Sports Reporters: Character Issues in NFL

The only person I said was bad was Vick and there is plenty of proof. Other than that it was just an observation based on statistics.

But why even bring those statistics up if they have nothing to do with Cam Newton or the Panthers? We're not talking about hardened criminals here. We're talking about young people making mistakes and being harshly judged by older people who probably did some of the same things when they were young, but just didn't get caught. In other words, hypocrites.

To illustrate the fact that most people don't change, therefor the judgment isn't that harsh but just a harsh reality.

So the justice department keeps stats on every single man woman and child who have had one run in with the law at 18yrs old, and those stats prove that the majority of them will keep getting in trouble for the rest of their lives? Show me.

I disagree with a lot of you. Personally I would never steal anything from another person. Maybe that's something that would have crossed my mind when I was 5 years old, but I've been raised better than to think it's OK to take something that belongs to another person.

You all sound like a bunch of enablers. In the real world a criminal history can seriously hurt your ability to keep or get a decent job. Criminal conduct is not a normal part of life and can be easily avoided by simply making the right decisions.

Also certain crimes really irk me. I don't support drug use but crimes where someone is only hurting himself I can look past. Cheating while obviously wrong I can also see past because a lot of athletes don't care about education and are mainly there because they can play sports.

Things like bullying and stealing I really take issue with. It shows a lack of respect for your fellow man. We have to deal with people in our lives everyday. Knowing that some people think it's OK to take my belongings just makes the world a less pleasant place to live in.

Who said stealing was OK? All I'm saying is that one mistake in college does not and should not define people for the rest of their lives. Did your parents not teach you that people make mistakes and deserve second chances? Even if they didn't, surely you're bright enough to figure that out on your own, right?

It's not one mistake though is it? Other than stealing the laptop he cheated (multiple times) and there is the situation where his representative asked for money, which, call me cynical, but I believe he knew something about. And where did I say I wasn't giving him a second chance?

My point is I think it is a risky pick. He has character issues. It's not one thing. I think there is a high possibility he'll end up making mistakes off the field as a Panther which will hurt the team.

Also you may enjoy throwing subtle insults when debating which is fine but I do not relate giving people second chances to intelligence. That is more of a religious belief than anything.

Realistically if you cut someones hand off after they steal they are less likely to steal again. Lock them up and they are less likely to commit a crime again. Whether that's morally right or wrong is for someone else to decide, but don't imply I'm stupid for being hesitant to give someone a second chance.

Giving someone a second chance is usually done after they admit wrongdoing and express regret. Newton has yet to do either to my knowledge. In religion you confess and pray for forgiveness. In the courtroom you plead guilty and express regret to the judge. In Cam Newton's world you ignore all questions that don't put you in a positive light and you forget the past.

I'm an atheist so I can do things like that. One of the perks.

Anyway, if Newton has no problems with the Panthers, great for him. If anything happens everyone will look back and see the signs and wonder why the Panthers drafted him.

I really hope he has no character issues and I hope he can be a productive NFL player.

No I haven't. I don't believe Cam stole the laptop either...he bought it from someone else who did, from what I understand. Lots of people have done that and worse, yet they still turned out to be good people.

Yep, thats why when the cops showed up he threw it out the window.

i know people can change and i'm sure cam will mature, and be a great guy.

Being heavily involved in the ministry, I've seen many-many-many people leave all the trash they dealt with earlier in life and turn into great people.

So i respectfully say, you can take those stats and piss all over 'em in a fire.
