An In-depth Sidney Rice and Wide Receiver Thread

Recommended Posts

to win in the National Football League, you need 3 Wide Receivers. One, a speed guy. On the other side, you need a bigger blocking type. On the inside, you need a quick white guy.

Name one team that has two guys like Smith on it that is succeeding? That would be a none. Some of the best Tandems have been the small guys paired with the large guys.

how tall is LaFell and Gettis?

would you like to raise a valid point sometime soon?

CarolinaPanthers8789: Sign Rice.

Everyone else: He's never healthy.

CarolinaPanthers8789: But when he's healthy he could be awesome!

Apparently 1,000 yards receiving and 8 touchdowns in one year is not very good let me go talk to Steve Smith and see if he thinks that 1,000 yards receiving and 8 touchdowns in one season is good since he made it there this year.

It's not shun (you're trying to say dismiss) so much as it's putting it into perspective.

Jackson, Holmes, Edwards, Owens

Unless you're suggesting steve smith had chronic leg-breaking-itis, 89 is a far way away from Rice's mystery chronic hip condition.

I'll give you Braylon Edwards. I'd be fine with signing him

On injuries:

I wasn't necessarily suggesting what you pointed out, but Smitty had a season ending injury early in his career. Not trying to compare the two, just showing guys can come back from injuries way better than before especially when they happen early in a career.

I'm very content with the potential WRs in this FA and we should take full advantage of that regardless if we get Smith back.

And this whole gamecock homerism thing is just silly. No mentioned anything about that until you started bashing South Carolina. I don't hold anything against a player for what college they went to...unless its Notre Dame :)

Do you understand the difference between a degenerative hip condition and a clean break of the leg?

Smith- Quick Black Guy (He would be better utilized in the slot going up against LB's)

LaFell- Speed Guy/Blocker

Rice/Gettis- Big/Blocker, Deep Threat

There you go Chief.

Lafell was drafted to be that big bruising receiver that Moose was. The kid has shown flashes, despite the situation he was thrown into last season. Gettis has shown nice route running and track star speed, and is lengthy as well.

I just tend to think our new coaching staff is going to look at videos of these two young receivers, plus the unknown AE and a high-hopes guy in Pilares, and use this season to grade our WRs and determine what moves should be made in the draft and FA next season. That being said, it mostly all comes down to the Smith ordeal.

Height does matter. I don't see Belichek going after Holmes to put beside a slot like Welker. Holmes is just as much as a slot wide as Welker and Smith has already said that he doesn't want to be that number one guy anymore so if you put Smith in the slot and Rice on the outside with Gettis on the other side you have a formidable tandem of size, speed, and strength.

actually, he does. Pats have no one over 6'1.... lol

...................................

Colts have no one over 6'2. 49ers have no one 6'0, except one guy named Zeigler(averaging 100 yards a season lol) at 6'3.. Steelers have no one over 6'1, except Limas Sweed who is the equivalent of Zeigler..

I could keep searching, but my point has been served..
