Could Walker/Barnes be the next Westbrook/Durant?

Recommended Posts

Well the comparisons to Kevin Durant are stupid. And I do think it is possible that Barnes won't be a top 3 pick (think 4th or 5th in the draft), especially when it isn't clear that he would have been a top 3 pick in this year's draft.

Lots of homerism and haterism going on in this thread. Call Barnes what he is-- overhyped but still a very talented player that could improve substantially next season.

He almost beat Durant 1 on 1 when he was in High school. (Took it to game point against an NBA player in Durant while in High school) Word is that he beat Durant this last time and that's why the scouts were salivating so much about it.

Barnes will be a top 3 pick for sure as long as he averages 45% shooting and 20 ppg this coming season. As for the SC fan, he started slow then took off. He was shooting just fine against college players at the end of last season.

Barnes has a shot at the top pick and that's shown in the National major mock drafts that have him going either 1st or second.

Agreed. But keep in mind that he did neither last year as a freshman. He still has some to prove to be a top 3 pick. Worst case scenario I see him going in the 4-7 range.

He does not compare to Durant very much but that doesnt mean Barnes couldnt be a superstar in the NBA.

I also dont think its homerism to call Barnes a top 3 lock and the favorite for top overall pick, unless you believe most of the mock drafts and experts are UNC homers.

I believe that all of the mock drafts right now don't have nearly enough info about how next season will unfold in order to be credible--- and neither do we.

Mock drafts made last year forecast Barnes as the overall pick in this year's draft also, and I think it's fair to say he would have been the 3rd or 4th pick in this year's draft. Barnes underachieved relative to the hype he entered college with. That hype is what has him being forecast as the top overall pick in next year's draft. Maybe he lives up to that hype this year. Maybe not.

Lol at mock drafts

I'll be shocked if Barnes averages 20 pts a game or higher. Unless he ball hogs and leaves Zeller, McAdoo, Henson and the rest of the Tarheels out in the cold. Too many players looking for shots on that team.

I believe Rivers will pop a 20 pts avg. Base on the style of offense Duke runs.

Like someone posted above over the last 18 games he basically averaged just that. 19.7 ppg on that loaded team is impressive and I believe it will only get better for him.

I seem to remember another Unc guy who didn't average 20 at Unc but still turned out pretty good.

Mocks arent gospel but they are a good barameter for next season imo.

I'm a HUGE Barnes fan, but I need to see him improve this year before I will go that far. He's great, but I want to see him improve his %'s from the field. The clutch factor is already there.

Honestly, i would LOVE to have Harrison Barnes and i am hoping the Bobcats geth the top pick for that reason. i dont think he will be LeBron James or Anthony, BUT he will be the leader and a top scorer for us, HOWEVER, i predict him to be a Cav next year.

    • We've never seen them outside of the structure of two very well ran organizations I'll give you that. And yes they are long in the tooth. I do think they are more than capable of getting a franchise turned around in short term capacity though. They are by no means a long term solution.
    • You're not making a good-faith argument by blaming literally everything on the quarterback when the defense gave him a fat 38 seconds to overcome its ineptitude, but it seems you're dead-set on blaming him for any problem the team encounters. In this case, it's not warranted. Sometimes it is. But he had no time to throw (pressured on 46% of all dropbacks, an insane amount) and that's simply not all his fault -- particularly when they rush 4 or less and are in the backfield in 1.5s or less. Should we have gotten more than 0 yards? Sure! But he hit a WR in the hands on fourth down and it was dropped. Not his fault. He missed one throw on second down but I attribute first down to a bad play call and third down to poor pass protection. I would've called some quick slants, personally, but it really seems you're saying: - playcalling: Bryce's fault - poor pass protection: Bryce's fault - defensive choking away a lead: Bryce's fault, not the defense - Horn dropping a pass: Bryce's fault It's a great way to garner support on here, because when it comes to Bryce, logic takes such a backseat to context that it's not even in the same vehicle. Plenty of games can be attributed to him. Can't take anyone seriously who solely blames him for that one.
    • I don't see how you can logically make that argument when the team beat two of the top teams in the entire league during the regular season.  Now imagine the additional games we would have won against absolute tip top competitors like SF and SEA had we had a professional QB.  You can throw any random stat at the problem you want, but the proof is in the pudding.  We all watched it live.  This roster would have produced 13 wins (wins against SF and SEA, two wins against NO, and would have swept the Bucs) and (almost certainly) a #1 seed with a remotely competent QB.  Those were not games where we needed an all star performance to win.  Those were games where a very, very modest stat line would have netted us an easy win. Nearly every measurable aspect of the team would have been significantly improved with a competent QB.
