Today's "Oh You Thought The Lockout Was Almost Over? Well..." News

Now they are saying that they must recertify the union to vote....and that it will take 2 weeks to get all of the cards signed and back in.

Pathetic attempt at stalling by the players. We all know they hate the preseason and don't actually get paid for it....they get reg season game checks. Shorten the pre-season and they are happy.

Not quite, it's been known they would have to vote to re certify the union and that it would take a while to do so. That's always been one of the keys steps to getting the league back up and running. The only way the NFLPA can vote on the CBA formally is to re certify.

They can do it quickly by doing a mass conference call, which I believe was the plan for today if the two sides got everything ironed out in time.

I been watching NFL network Live Report all day. D. Smith just came out and had a press conference and from the looks of things this dont look good. The Players have the final say if we have a CBA but they have to go back to been a Union. This could take along time. We might not get a deal into probably next week if we are lucky and one side dont piss off the other. I just hope this poo dont blow up because if it does we might could lose the whole pre season and part of the regular season.

It's going to take a while to re certify the union, however the player reps can vote formally on the CBA and approve it. Then league activities can begin for teams, re certification if the players decide to do so, could take a week if they do it right. Each player would have the choice to decline. Majority would have to approve the move to re certify.

Then FA could begin, I'm still thinking that teams exclusive window will start Next week on the 25th. Then actual FA would begin around the 28th of this month.

The first Pre season game is pretty much lost and both sides have agreed to that, which is why things have started to slow down again.

The article I read had quoted Mawae. He talked about the re-certification and how that would take time. He threw out the 2 week number.

Keep in mind that they can have an agreement in place and lift the lockout without recertifying the union. The owners can let the players come to work anytime they want to. They could draft something along the lines of a binding MOU that would make the vote to accept the CBA after the union reforms nothing more than a formality.

Agreed. However, I am sure that the owners want assurance the the anti-trust suit will die before doing anything.

Yeah thats true. We cant have a CBA unless the Union recertify. So until then there will be no Deal.

Another article (from PFT...I know they suck) that talks about some of the issues facing the CBA.

fuging greedy ass players.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/21/reluctance-to-reconstitute-union-is-another-red-herring/

"Kessler apparently is holding up the deal in one way by ignoring all modern means of communication to insist on sending out union cards in the mail for players to sign and return.

There’s another Kessler tactic that continues to find willing soil. As Chris Mortensen of ESPN mentioned moments after Paolantonio’s report from Atlanta, some of the players meeting in Washington are reluctant to reformulate the union."

"With the rookie wage scale sucking away roughly half of what Cam Newton made in comparison to Sam Bradford’s rookie contract, Andrew Luck would be able to sue the league, claiming that the draft is an antitrust violation. And the league would have to defend the case on the merits, because there would be no antitrust exemption in the absence of a union."

From what I read they could go on with things as planned even with the pending re-certification. Players are slated to vote tonight at 8pm

WRONG.

Just saw Chris Cooley, the Skins' player rep on NFLN just now when I got home and he said voting is very unlikely and unrealistic tonight... Said they MIGHT vote tomorrow, but not sure, depending on whether they like the deal or not.

Also, there's an issue about whether they even want to agree to it at all and be recognized as a union again.

Guess what? I'm willing to bet the owners approve it today, send it to the players and the players either stall it or reject it and we're back to square one.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
