If you're far apart, why wouldn't you keep trying to negotiate to close the gap at least? What dummies...

You're coming off one of your best seasons as a league since MJ retired (the 2nd time) and you're content with letting the following season completely go to waste.

I'm really starting believe Sir Charles in that we're most likely going to lose this season.

the same thing happened with the nfl and they werent even as far apart as the NBA.

IM not surprised.

Yeah, I can get the "take a break and cool off" angle... But, like you said, the NFL wasn't as far apart as the NBA. I read Hunter from the NBAPA said they were about 4 Billion apart...

WOW.

So, I would think every little bit of talks they could have would benefit them and they would want to do so as soon as possible.

The NBA has a lot more at stake than the NFL did... Fans will always come back to the NFL, I don't think it's the same with the NBA.

The players dont want to play a half a season like they did in '99, so if any time is missed, the whole thing will probably be scrapped. It doesnt bother me as much as the NFL locking out. The NBA as a league needs some humility. The players are already showing them, there's other ways to get money outside of the league. IMO, the players should organize a league of their own here in the states of about 15 teams and play at the beginning of next year. Maybe we can get some good officiating too.

Only problem with that is finding places to play. unless its going to be like andone or outside.

I've thought the same thing... Whether they go play in other leagues or elsewhere, there is money to be had.

Only thing is, as far as the league's stance, I'm all for a hard cap because I think it would be better for the league competition-wise.

Yeah, I'm just kind of relieved were on the verge of having football back and hope the NBA comes back around without losing all of the momentum they gained this past season.

The only way to save the 30+ teams in the NBA is for the owners to dig in and hope the players fold and institute a salary cap. Otherwise there will have to be contraction. The NBA owners don't have the upper hand in these negotiations like the NFL owners do because each of the NBA players seems able to find employment easily overseas.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
