My observations of Cam Newton's game

There really is a middle ground here. Start Anderson or Pickles and put in some packages for Newton. Look what he did in the 2 minute drill when he sits back in a shotgun like he did for Auburn. He could be very good for us without playing every snap. He really does have a great arm to throw deep downfield. When he is the best option then play him full time. He can get snaps and learn at the same time without sacrificing the season.

C'mon people stop this black and white concrete thinking and get out of the box. This can be a great year for us and give Cam the experience he needs.

That scenario is EXACTLY what I would like to see happen.

Folks, let's remember, the OP told us all how Matt Moore's 3 INT game in a 20-7 loss to StL was fantastic last season, and how he graded out very well supposedly. However, a turnover-free game with two passes over 30 yards is awful. Why? Newton doesn't have the tools to compete with better quarterbacks, and won't until he changes his name to Matt Moore.

Yes, TRD, I mentioned Matt Moore, because I'm proving once again how incredibly flawed your logic is.

Anyone can make up a post rooted in fiction and use it to discredit someone's logic.

I stated he would have graded out better than most fans think, it's not a hard concept but please continue.

Cam did not play a great game. He did however have a good first NFL preseason game. The stats meant nothing, I think the important thing to do was see how he handled himself out there against live competition that wanted to put him in the dirt. He looked poised and like an unbelievable physical specimen.

There are many many rough spots to the game and Cam's play in the game but I'd say overall I liked what I saw in regards to my expectations.

I don't see why we need to keep bringing up Matt Moore at this point now. It's over he is gone.

Here is my take on Cam, he had really good moments and a few bad moments. I felt he threw off his back foot too many times, but part of that was the rush up the middle and he had to get rid of the ball. My count he had 3 "bad" passes, the one that bounced to Naanee, the one to LaFell, and the pass to the corner of the endzone to the TE (Barnidge?) which was off his back foot. Not every incompletion is a bad pass, you do have to give the defense some credit sometimes. What was most impressive about the performance was how calm and collected he was standing in the pocket. Plus we all have to remember he didn't scramble at all which is a big part of his game, I would have liked to see a run play called for him, maybe a bootleg or something like that. Cam is a valuable weapon to have just like Armanti and I think this offense is going to be fun to watch. All in all I think Cam played well, has a lot of work to do but the talent and skill is there so you are just talking about fixing mechanics which is the easy part.

Bad news for Panther trolls, eh, I mean "fans," who don't like Cam...

Reed is reporting he most likely will be starting against Miami and took the majority of the snaps with the 1s today.

So apparently, the staff saw what us reasonable, objective fans saw.

He should start. Why delay the inevitable.

Get him in there and let him develop. This isn't news to anyone with half a brain.

He was starting the minute he got drafted, don't pretend like his terrible performance bumped him up the depth chart.

Lol @ the continued trolling TRD.

Why man?

So much energy you could be putting towards productive efforts. If he was "starting" since we drafted him, he would've started last week.

He performed the best out of all the QBs with more flashes of gamebreaking ability and showed promise in bringing things to the table that the other QBs can't, no matter how good of a night they have...

Seriously, if you know football, and you're a fan of this team, you liked what you saw out of Cam (although there is varying opinions on how much you may have liked it). That's why he's getting the start. He's earning it.

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
