If it comes down to it, Barnidge or Sutton? Who do you pick?

Barnidge without question. Shockey was a shot in the dark signing to help Chud in the offense he wants to run. Olsen was a blessing and something the FO didn't see coming.

My guess... Shockey doesn't last past his one-year contract and Barnidge and Olsen are our pass catching stud TE's for years to come. Instant upgrade and the ability for instant impact on offense.

Sutton is buried on the depth chart and only has an opportunity to see the field if one (and more than likely, two) backs go down with injuries. Plus, he provides nothing to special teams. He played returner several times two (?) seasons ago, but with Edwards, Goodson and potentially Pilares holding down those spots, he'll likely not see the field there either.

And, as many have said... replacing a 4th string HB is much easier than a playmaking, pass-catching TE like Barnidge. All Barnidge has done on the field is make plays... both offensively and on special teams.

I think the real competition might be between Sutton and Goodson if their preseason workload starts to even out a little. Shockey is no long-term solution, and Barnidge has impressed to date with the opportunities he has seen.

Marty may overpay some players, but one thing I do trust is his ability to draft linebackers and running backs. Sutton or Goodson could be replaced with a solid mid- to late-round draft choice next year

I meant to vote for Gary and the reason is becasue we have some awesome mentors at TE and he could step in when Shockey moves on. Yea we have some great mentors at RB too but RBs can produce straight out of the draft and are a bit more common.

Remember you can ask this Q with Fox mentality or Rivera mentality and they'll each have a different answer.

    • The motto means nothing if they lay down and submit to the opponent. One of the most embarrassing things I have seen from twenty years of being a fan.  Regardless if the lead seems to be insurmountable, you keep giving 110% untill the final second. Canales is definitely a Beta and it wasn't a good look at all. I wonder what the locker room was whispering about after that sh%t. I hope we never see this again and he actually grows a pair of balls. He needs to look in the mirror and understand that you just don't do that in the NFL. Maybe peewee football so kids don't get hurt. Throw the 3rd stringers in to run the play and finish the game wirh some some pride and don't bend the knee.
    • No but we should have kept both of them. People complaining about what he got paid can’t say much now because it’s absolutely worth it to get 15 sacks which we could desperately use, especially when you compare it to some of the free agents we have signed to try to replace that production (none of them have come close and we are wasting good money on them)
    • That period started rough but the canes stayed with it.  They will when this game 3-1 or 4-2 the way it’s going.
