Reggie Bush likely to see reduced role in Miami

Per Jason Cole: Bush’s role with Dolphins already lessened

That talk was still strong before the Dolphins played the Houston Texans on Sunday in a game that nearly ended the Dolphins’ long streak of home sellouts. Miami coach Tony Sparano talked about how Bush, who had 11 carries and nine receptions in the season-opening loss to the New England Patriots, would get about 20 touches a game.

During the loss to Houston, Bush got seven (six carries and one catch), gaining a grand total of 21 yards. In two games, Bush has 17 carries for 56 yards, which is pretty much in line with his career numbers. Considering rookie Daniel Thomas(notes) had 107 yards on 18 carries in his debut Sunday, you can understand why Bush’s time as the fulltime back is probably over only seconds after it started – even if Bush still wants to hang on to the dream.

“I can be that type of runner. I know I can handle the work,” Bush said in a matter-of-fact tone.

The problem for Bush is that his game doesn’t play well between the tackles. Never has, not even in college...

I'm shocked :sosp:

He's been a solid producer for the role he's had, but given the hype surrounding him when he was drafted he could be classified as a bust.

His problem is that he's still hanging on to the "star" tag everyone put on him and won't let it go...

He's deadly catching the ball out of the backfield, but no you don't spend a top 5 pick on that.

    • I think he's gone, and rightfully so, if he turns in another losing record. The "talented roster," regardless of how true or not, is a double-edged sword. If the roster is so much improved now from 202X then why are you still producing losing seasons? On one hand, maybe that's what needs to happen. Have the GM hire the new coach, and then have the new coach pick his guy to run his system. That is typically how it works in the NFL. Not the forced inheritance deal we have had in place.
    • Hinging on Brooks to be our spark...be good if it happens... but not holding my breath....RB next draft. Morgan gambled...it would be a 2 year payoff if thing happened.
    • Only way Canales is fired is if we are attrocious everywhere....  defense /special teams and offense..  There are enough "questions" on if BY9 is the guy that ownership wouldn't fire the coach for "just" mid qb play.  Especially with as talented a roster that has played "well enough" to win some tough football games and hang in there against the top tier of the NFL ...(mostly).   Now total team suckage..yeah .. but I don't see that happening.
