Nfl.com predicting Cam Newton Gets

The Saltman

Jesus Christ people. He's a rook. Expectations are outta control.

If expectations are out of control, it's in reaction to what Cam has already shown he can do. Expectations should ALWAYS be a little above reality or there will be no progress. A little above 435 against an elite defense? 500 against a subpar defense.

So the Jets' torched the Jags gaining 182 yards passing?

looks like someone read the final score and figured it was the offense doing it all when it was all the Jets' defense making plays.

then I agree, I think Cam will get 182 for sure, he'll definitely torch Jacksonville.

In this case it's not the total yardage that's important since field position was a key factor in limiting those yards. Sanchez was 71 percent with over 10 yards per attempt. Those are Brady/Rodgers/Brees type numbers. In fact those #'s would pretty much lead the league in those categories.

I'll give you the completion percentage and the average for attempt but like anything you have to look at the context and also note they threw 2 Interceptions as well. Luke McCown had one of the worst QB performances in recent years and threw 4 picks throwing their defense back onto the field continuously. That's probably not going to happen again, the odds are stacked against another complete disaster for their QB position, this being the Pros and all.

Dustin Keller lit the Jaguars up, I'll tell you that. So I'd expect Olsen or Shockley to have decent days. Their LBs are bad in coverage. Also, Jags played without their best cornerback against the Jets in Derek Cox who has surpassed Rashean Mathis. But Jacksonville has replaced their weak link of the defense in Safety Courtney Greene who was playing FS even though he's a SS and thus horrible in coverage. They are starting Dwight Lowery who they traded for at the beginning of the season from the Jets (He was the Jet's "closer" last year with timely INTs and ended Jacksonville's Week 1 win versus the Titans with an INT as well even though he barely played due to being new to the team.)

The media and most you guys are really dogging Jacksonville's defense, I'm telling you they're not as bad as everyone thinks, they're pretty damn solid. They're the strongest part of their team actually believe it or not.

Well the Jaguars were really out of the game before the 3rd quarter even ended so what was the point for the Jets to continue passing?

    • This is a toughie because I wonder what a guy like Canales thinks about redemption stories for addiction issues. Also, I think this is a case of 1 player getting caught, and not being naive enough to think this isn't more common in college than we think. I'd toss a 3rd rounder out there. 2026 is essentially a redshirt season regardless, so he's not taking over for any NFL QB next year. Best case, he's ready to go in 2027 if we pass on Bryce's extension. Worst case, he's our future backup QB2. Kid has the tools to be an NFL QB. I do think we could somehow land a '26 3rd round pick back in a trade. Our past years' third rounders are: Brazzell Princely Wallace DJ Johnson Matt Corral All this to say, I could see a team like the Jets going w/ a 2nd. They have three FRPs next year.
    • Alright man! We're here for it! Just glad you're keeping the doors open!
    • I think we've seen improvement in Bryce's performance. It still isn't up to world beater status, but in Canales defense, he can say that the limitations of the player were hit. I think he survives that even if Bryce doesn't. Still, I think it's a 50/50 shot for Bryce to make it. QB is one of the toughest jobs to do in the sports world, if not the most, so the failure rate is really high, no matter the pedigree. Heck, Archie Manning gets a lot of credit as a great QB but anyone who saw his career in motion knows he wasn't really that good and he was surrounded by bottom of the bowl players. He did get it figured out with his sons, though. That grandson... maybe.
