Newton vs. Tebow

X-Clown, what part do you disagree with?

The suggestion that The Golden Calf of Bristol is in any neighborhood close to being as good as Cam.

Are we not better on offense at skill positions? Line? Scheme?

Steve Smith is better than anyone on their team. But let's not pretend that Eric Decker, Demariyus Thomas, and Eddie Royal are some bums that they just signed off the street. I'd take any of those 3 over Naanee.

As far as offensive lines go, I would much rather have Ryan Clady than Jordan Gross, I'd rather have Orlando Franklin than Byron Bell, I'd call the guard matchup a push (Chris Kuper is their Travelle Wharton, and Zane Beadles is their Hangartner), and I'd obviously take Kalil. At best I would call that matchup a push.

Our scheme is better because we have a quarterback like Cam to run it. I don't think a QB like The Golden Calf of Bristol who is in a run first offense and can't even complete 50% of his passes would have a chance in hell of stepping in and delivering anything close to what Cam has given us so far.

Please let the record show that I also noted it was in a monsoon

So why even bring it up?

Were the Jags not the only top 10 defense we played? Was it not in a monsoon? Were Cam's numbers not very pedestrian?

So the cutoff line for his performances to count is that it has to be the Top 10 defenses? Those extra 10 yards per game that the 13th, 14th, and 15th ranked defenses allow (Washington, Atlanta, and New Orleans) somehow invalidates Cam's performances when we compare them to anyone else?

Did he not beat the Jags and Skins (who haven't won a game with Beck and all the injuries)?

Yes, the team did win those games with Cam at the helm. But context is fun. Cam has given his team a shot to win every single game he's played in, including the 2 NFC Championship teams from last year, the 2009 Super Bowl Champs, and the NFC South winners from last year, with little to no help from the other 2 units on the team.

The Golden Calf of Bristol by comparison won a game against a one-win, 23rd ranked defense Dolphins team in which the team clearly won in spite of him. He absolutely stunk up the field in one of the worst performances I've ever seen against the Lions, losing by 35 points. And then his latest win was against the Raiders and their 26th ranked defense, a game in which The Golden Calf of Bristol only needed to complete 10 passes since their defense forced 3 INTs, had a punt return for a TD, and the Raiders apparently forgot how to tackle Willis McGahee. How many games has Cam's defense/special teams stepped up in that big of a way to help him win games?

i agree that Smith is better than their WRs, BUT as for the rest, let's look. Decker is real young and i rather have him than LaFell. Thomas is injury prone and i would take him, BUT he's basically a developmental WR like The Golden Calf of Bristol is at QB. Thomas came out of a triple spread option. Eddie Royal is good when healthy which isnt often. their WRs are still adjusting to the NFL though and that's why i tend to agree that The Golden Calf of Bristol doesnt have the talent that Carolina has. Carolina at least has two TEs and LaFell isnt better than Decker and Royal (though he maybe better than Thomas right now) and the line is about the same and the panthers have more depth at running back. if McGahee gets hurt, denver's running game will stink.

    • Not really. It all depends upon perspective. You can draft quality OTs high every year. They have one of the lowest bust rates by position. DTs, less so, but good ones still come along at a regular clip. With WRs, it's simply best to draft one in the first round if you want a legit play maker. Moreover, WR is going to set you back more than OT or DT at really all statuses, meaning JAG receivers are going to make more than JAG OTs and DTs, and elite receivers will make substantially more than elite OTs or DTs. I would also argue that it's much harder to find a franchise level OT or DT that can have an altering impact upon the game. So, if you don't believe they can, you may as well wait for day 2 or 3. That's why sticking to your board is probably the wisest thing to do. If you're not committed that the value is there, then what are you doing? Lastly, I don't think you should necessarily draft in a vacuum, but you must look at each team from year to year. People want to make them the same, but they're different. You have to start over every year and identify where the strengths and weaknesses are. You can't say, "Well we drafted [so and so] last year or two years ago, so we'll just draft this this year." That's not realistic and it can be highly counterproductive, especially in light of the reason that you should be trying to use FA to set up the draft.
    • If you read through his stuff, he's had a raging hate-boner for the Carolina Panthers the likes of which would make many long-tenured Huddlers blush. Every win was "yeah but" and every loss was "see I told you so".
    • Let me preface this by saying I've read WalterFootball on and off for 20 years. That's an indictment on my decision-making, and it's more than fair to be questioned.  However, the days of reading what's become weak ragebait have drawn to a close after he re-graded the 2025 NFL Draft's first round. He gave T-Mac a C on draft night. What was his re-grade for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year?  Carolina Panthers: Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona – C Grade One-Year Grade: C+ Grade Tetairoa McMillan won Offensive Rookie of the Year, but only by default after Emeka Egbuka vanished in the second half of the season. McMillan was good, and was certainly limited by Bryce Young’s mediocrity, but there are still concerns about his work ethic and passion for football. If he doesn’t progress in the coming years, we’ll know why. Original Write-up: Wow, our Panthers source did not pan out for once. Jalon Walker was heavy chalk to go here, but the Panthers decided to draft a No. 1 receiver instead. While this fills a need, I’m concerned with Tetairoa McMillan’s work ethic, which is something you never want to hear from a first-round prospect, especially one who is chosen in the top 10. Bryce Young needs this, and McMillan is talented, but will he give 100 percent at the next level? Also, what about the defense, which was the worst in the NFL last year? https://walterfootball.com/nfldraftgrades2025.php
