Who do you want?

I know it's a bit premature. We still have a few months of season left; however, who are you guys looking at as far as the draft goes? Do we go winger or goalie in the 1st?

Personally, if we don't take Mikhail Grigorenko, Nail Yakupov (probably won't get to him, but you never know) or Filip Forsberg, I wouldn't mind us taking Malcolm Subban as a goalie. The only reason you take him though is if you think Cam is truly dropping off and will never return to the elite Cam Ward of a few years ago. Even then, I think we can get him in the 2nd, maybe even the 3rd.

What say you?

Why do you go goalie? The rumors of Cam's demise have been greatly exaggerated...

He's only 27 and has faced the 3rd most shots against in the NHL this year. Fix the defense in front of Ward and we're fine there.

I agree, by and large. Especially the past 10 games or so, he's really played great. The defense in front IS an issue. I am just saying, IF Muller or JR are looking at Cam and not liking what they see, then you take one.

I still say we take a solid winger. Somebody well balanced, can play both ends of the ice well.

I agree with going for a winger if it's there. This draft is loaded with defenseman but for once we have solid d prospects. Winger would be great.

As far as goalies go. I am not in favor of drafting a goalie where we will be drafting. Ward is not old yet and is not declining as some think. We have a really solid goalie prospect I am very excited about. I have posted this link before. I see him being in Charlotte in a year or two and if we're lucky then an understudy to Cam.

I agree with these picks. Try to find a first line forward, and since it's policy to draft talent and not find high-price talent in FA or via trades, now is the time to do so. Just don't expect them to make an immediate impact like Skinner. Players like him, who go from juniors to the NHL without any trouble in transition are very rare.

Ward is NOT the problem. A man can only stop so much and he's been facing way too many shots for a few seasons now... with no relief. We went out and got a good goalie to back him up and look what happened... he couldn't handle the SOG that Cam sees every night, allowed a ton of goals and then got hurt. I don't think it's Brian's fault either. Then, we are stuck with the same pair as last season with Peters called up to fill the back-up role, with the same results... he can't handle the SOG. Peters and Brian are good goalies, Cam's work in net and a weak defensive team make them look bad. And it makes Cam look bad sometimes.

Just my opinion.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
