Will Leave The Hurneywagon If We Don't Make An Effort To Improve The Team This FA.

No, I didn't. This thread is actually older than FA. As stated before, if you had read the post, you would've known this (which demonstrates that you too lack the ability to see past the panties crawling up your crack feeling and read what it's actually about) I don't know I some people just have attention deficit disorder, or what it is, but the sheer lack of the ability to merely pay attention on this forum is just absurd.

actually i read ur entire first post and then refuted it in depth. yet u seem to be ignoring my post (probably because it made you feel like a fool) and instead are going to scream how stupid the forum is at every person who didn't spend the time to refute each point in ur OP.

When, besides the uncapped year where we dumped everybody, have we not signed free agents to help the team. We'll go it again this year.

I'm ignoring your posts because you don't know how to spell.

half you people in this thread really didn't read a damn word he said did you?

always a dick measuring contest on the internet i swear...

I understand what you are getting at OP. You don't want VJax, or Mario, or any elite talent like that, you just want guys who are considered marginally better than Munnerlyn, and Fua, and NaNee, etc., the kind of guys we signed for our playoff run in 03.

just because u post with perfect punctuation and grammar doesn't make you any less of an idiot; it just makes u a slightly more legible idiot.

i know how to spell fine and my posts are plenty easy to read. keep them excuses coming bro, u seem like a finely educated individual.

We haven't made any significant outside contributions via FA in a very, very long. We'll make the occasional Ron Edwards stop-gap move, but this team hasn't brought in a proven, mid-career, talented FA since like Mike Wahle.

We lack the discipline to say "You know what? Maybe these players aren't cutting it even though we drafted them. We've got a few needs, let's take a look at addressing them via FA. Let's find some starters."

Nobody has said anything about Mario Williams, well except Matthias but he's widely regarded as the Huddle's village idiot so I don't care what he says.

What would be nice is if we altered our philosophy to include FA's as a part of the way we build our team rather than stubbornly hoping our "young" (aka not good) draft picks from year's passed will magically turn it around.

Thats what I want Hurney to show me he is capable of doing this offseason, and if he can't, and it ends up destroying a promising season, he'll have only himself to blame.

The thing is that this organization wants to be run like the Steelers. The problem is that the Steelers hit homeruns year after year after year in the draft in rounds 1-5. They get starters or guys that will be starters every single year so they end up spending zero when trying to acquire FAs. They get stop-gap players for their ST unit and that's about it. Hurney on the other hand trades away our draft picks to move up because he sucks at evaluating late-round talent so the product is a two-fold bust:

1) We end up getting one less pick because we trade up

2) The players we trade up for (Everette Brown, Armanti Edwards) end up being busts so it just compounds the mistake.

He isn't as good as Colbert at drafting players so he needs to convince Richardson that we might need to pick up one or two FAs that can fills some needs. Doesn't have to be a Mario Williams type player...but someone like John Abraham as a situational pass rusher for a lower-tier contract or Ben Grubbs to replace Wharton would be nice.

Actually its more about Dick LeBeau and how he uses players. The Steelers before major coaching changes to the offense sucked and never scored many points. They have always leaned on there defense and I hope Rivera can get our defense to Steelers levels.

I read the post, but thought it was a new one and didn't look at the time of the OP. My fault.

Mike Wahle and Ken Lucas weren't mid tier free agents though. I believe they were the top guard/tackle (I think their was another good guard, but at least the second best one) and corner that year. Mid-tier guys are players like Stephen Davis, Ron Edwards, Ricky Proehl, Omar Gaither, etc.

I would like us to sign more premium guys but there is nobody out there now excepted dude's making stupid money (Garcon, Williams, Jackson) and then a lot of Ron Edward type guys that have their warts but may contribute.

Would I love us to sign a Ben Grubbs to a reasonable deal? Sure, but I'm not even sure that can happen. I wouldn't put it all on one offseason and say "Bring in amazing signings or you suck" because it might just be a bad year.

lately, less and less of those types of players are available in free agency. since they can be retained at a nominal cost, most teams are completely fine extending their contracts, signing them new contracts, or assigning them 1st - 2nd round tenders. the ones that do hit free agency are the ones demanding to be strictly overpaid. perfect example: vincent jackson. he is a good WR, but he is definitely not a top 5 WR and possibly not even a top 10 WR. he is, however, going to be handed a top flight WR contract (possibly 10+ million a year).

we tried this tactic, with mike wahle and with ken lucas, and both were pretty good for a few years. in the end tho we only got maybe 2 years of solid production out of the two.

in a way we did this with greg olsen last year. we will find out down the road if it paid off. essentially we brought in a proven starter in the middle of his career and so far it looks to have been a dandy move (sure it was a trade rather than FA pick up).

how can u claim that hurney does not attempt to bring these type of players in when there is significant evidence he has in the past?

You have to keep in mind that we can rarely AFFORD top tier/mind range FA because Marty Hurney is such a genius with the CAP......

well we would have a ton more cap room if we didn't have to pay players like charles johnson, steve smith, jordan gross, chris gamble and jon beason.

of course then we'd have an entirely set of needs.

    • I mean....no lies detected. See above. We have traded a fortune to draft a guy #1 overall that people have lowered standards for to the point that not playing like Jimmy Clausen and looking like a poor man's Kyle Allen occasionally is worthy of a contract extension making him one of the highest paid QB's in the league. That is cope on steroids.
    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
    • this one is gold:     Bryce has a cult inside the Panthers fanbase that has truly developed some NPC hivemind. I'll never understand how he's captured the true essence of the casual fan like that.
