Hornets fans stood by and let the city blow their home up. They didnt even put up a fight. Who would trust them as fans? The Charlotte Hornets are just faddish novelty item. A snapback hat hanging in my closet. They failed as a bball team in Charlotte. Had they been successful they'd still be here. This is Bobcat Country. The Bobcats brand and future is more important than the Hornets.

You sound like someone who always hated Charlotte Hornets, what the difference between Charlotte Bobcats 2004-present and Charlotte Hornets last couple years in Charlotte ? attendance/support were bout same, Hornets had much more on court success. Shinn was leaving Charlotte no matter what even if every game sold out 2002, he gave up on us he said so, so why would we put $$ in his pockets just to be in diff state the following year. he wanted out we didn't want team to leave just wanted shinn to go. Stern didn't try help Hornets to stay like he is with N.O, or Kings.

What was the point to fight keep arena up? they had already left, got new arena bobcats can rebrand to Hornets and still play in TWC arena.

Hornets nostalgists wish they were the Bobcats. Wish they played in TWC Arena, wish they had a future in Charlotte, NC. PSC, when we made the playoffs 2 years ago the Nostalgists put the name change hate out there to try to nullify the Bobs accomplishment. They made sure to mention the honeybees every time and how perfect "the good old days" were. They are leeches and freeloaders who are bitter they no longer exist! Lazy revisionists who want a free ride courtesy of the Bobs. They're so paranoid about the Bobs being more successful in our community than the Hornets. Jealousy is a feminine trait, much like their color scheme. They dont seem to have that envy and ill will towards the Panthers. Let them tell it, the Hornets were bigger than the Panthers ever were. If someone with $$$ and capital from NC/SC had stepped up years ago all this couldve been avoided. But nobody in NC/SC got $$$ to spend like Uncle Bob. How would money save the Charlotte Hornets from leaving Charlotte? Shinn mind was made up not to leave Hornets in Charlotte, i don't know why, maybe because the fan didn't back him during his scandal trail. Michael Jordan tried to buy the Hornets then to keep them in Charlotte but shinn did not want that. Shinn wouldn't agree to an equal partnership, nor a major sell-out to Jordan.

I dont think its fair to keep blaming George Shinn totally for the Hornets failure. At some point "Hornets fans" have to look themselves in the mirror and ask did they do everything they could to keep the Hornets here? Did they show loyalty in adverse times? The answer is NO. They quit on them and gave up on the team, giving Shinn the out he needed to move it. I think they have to ask themselves, is emulating a team that never gets out of the 1st round the standard we want to set? We become the Hornets then what? I think asking Jordan to have the Bobcats "pretend" they're the Hornets is moving backwards, not forwards. I think with Cam coming into our sports scene, the "old way" of doing things and the "old Charlotte" is about to die out. It's a progressive time in Charlotte right now. I keep saying it, the people who hold the Hornets in high regard are 20-30 year olds. The younger kids in our market have no bond with them. The new people coming in are excited about the future of our Bobcats.

If you're so high on the Hornets it boggles my mind why you wont keep pulling for them? There are literally tons and tons of people in our market that had NFL teams they rooted for before the Panthers and stuck with them. They didnt ask the Panthers to pretend to be the Skins, or Cowgirls, or Steelers. They just stuck with their kind. I think the Hornets lovers need to seriously think about that. Because truth be told, us Bobcat fans really dont have much use for them anymore. The Hornets lovers are about to experience a backlash when it comes to Bobcats fans. The Bobs are never gonna be the Hornets, hell, they're never even gonna try to be. Hoping and wishing for them to turn into that is only gonna lead to your own dissapointment.

Dont you mean Charlotte fans failed him since the team was named the Charlotte Hornets? KT no team could survive with way the Shinn was being cheap in the last couple of years the Hornets played in Charlotte. Shinns whole plan after Woodridge bought into the team was to move it.

As for the Bobcats they need to embrace all of the Carolinas to make money. Sure people wont drive to games outside of a 50 mile radius. But they would follow them on tv and buy their merchandise.

Name change would help not to the Hornets but something the people of Charlotte feel they are part of. Both the Bobcats and Hornets leave a bad taste in my mouth everytime I hear them. 1 for the way Shinn was cheap in the later years and 2. For how Johnson and the NBA acted like all they had to do was give Charlotte a team and people would go to the games.

Jordon needs to reach out to all the Carolinas. FIrst have a true renaming contest. Secondly makes sure every game is broadcasted in both NC and SC. The team shouldnt be a local team it should be area team.

look at what the Hurricanes did a few years back. They bought the Checkers and moved them up to AAA. They wanted to get the Fans in Charlotte more involved with the Hurricanes. Hurricanes are a the perfect example of how a team should be ran.

Thats whats so funny, the Hornets are the only Charlotte team that people totally abandoned and where ran out of town, and to these low standard having fans they're successful. LMAO. People go out of their way to spit venom at the Bobs to keep that shitty franchise propped up. Go to the TWC Arena wiki page and see how a Hornets nostalgist has revised history proclaiming Bobcats Arena was originally built for the Hornets. Lol. Go see all references to Uncle Bob and Mayor McCory have been wiped out and replaced with Shinn. For years "we voted against and he built it anyway" was the main talking point against Uncle Bob, now he had nothing to do with the arena and the prosperous growth around it. Its as if he did nothing financially and the Hornets nostalgists funded everything and opened the arena. But hey thats the politics of Charlotte, marginilize what people of color do and give all the credit to their cousin or neighbor they feel "safer" with. It can be a very racist and incestuous place. As someone who grew up with the Hornets and idolized Zo, LJ, Muggsy, Dell, and many more, I was sad to see that team go. I still have my towel from the last playoff game. It was a shame the way that franchise left town.

When the Bobcats came around I was excited again, and I've followed them since day one. I support my local teams as much as someone as broke as I am can.

That being said I find all arguments on this topic to be just plain silly. "Rebranding" is a slap in the face of the new franchise, and everyone arguing for it using sales stats, really? You care enough about the team that you're worried about it's profitability? I think not. Red herring.

And KT, you and I have had our agreements and disagreements before, and I tend to agree with the non-radical version of your stance, but c'mon... Do you have to have some issue to always be the champion of? Humans (regardless of race) are a nostalgic group and we tend to glamorize the past. Why you feel the need to attach race and/or social status to that is beyond me.

The one thing I will say on that subject is that the arena debate pulled radical conservatives into the discussion, and anytime that happens race/social status is bound to come up. That demographic just can't have a conversation without making collective asses of themselves.
