Brockers Vs Cox

I believe Brockers is a late 1st round pick. 25-32.

Really depends on who values him and wants him. If there is a run on DTs in the top 15, he might be gone by then. If there isn't then he could still be there at 25-30. Each year there is a run on certain positions which pulls some players up and others down.

I believe the Broncos are the only team guaranteed to take a DT in the 1st round. There are about 4 other teams that very well possibly could take a DT including the Panthers. There are 5 DTs worthy of taking in the 1st round. They could all go in the 1st, but I doubt it. I think Worthy will go before Brockers. I personally wouldn't touch Poe, but I bet he goes before Brockers as well. Just based on my opinion. And the way my mock draft lays out. I think Brockers will be looking at #25 to the Broncos.

1. Cox

2. Brockers

3. Worthy

4. Still

5. Poe

Really good write up on cox if anybody is interested, I do hope hes the pick

That's funny. It sounds like my description of Cox, except for the poor technique and pad level. I thought he had very good pad level most of the time, but I could see the hand placement argument.. he does not use his arm length to his advantage in the run game. His run defense will improve dramatically once he does.

There are really some guys like Poe and Brockers who can play in a 4-3 or 3-4 which will increase the number of teams interested. There will be a run on them at some point.

All 5 guys listed are capable of playing in both 4-3 and 3-4.

No I don't think Cox can. He is not good against double teams and can't hold the edge against the run so he couldn't play DE. He is too big and not good enough in space to play OLB. He is a 4-3 DT who plays best in a 1 gap attacking scheme not in a read and react 2 gap scheme which is what most 3-4 teams run.

Fletcher Cox played the 5-tech very very well at Miss St. In fact he played the 5-tech probably 20-25% of the snaps. The Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks think Fletcher can play the 5-tech.. I am sure other teams do as well.

That assumes that all 3-4 schemes are the same. Dallas does not run a traditional 3-4 and honestly I bet Hawk could tell you better about Seattle than I could. But the reality is that Cox struggles when double teamed and doesn't hold the edge well against the run in a 2 gap system. So he could play in some 3-4s but not all of them. Where a guy like Brockers could play in a 1 gap or 2 gap scheme.

Many mocks have us taking Cox but I think it'll be Brockers. I think people are just hyping Cox up. Everyone has their turn to be hype, and it's Cox's turn. Brockers' was in the beginning, Poe's after the combine and now it's Cox bc he's a safer pick. If Brockers can translate his performance into the pros, Brockers will be the best DT in this year draft.

My rank:

Brockers

Worthy

Cox

Poe

Still

Thompson

And remember Brockers was the first player we brought in for a visit, talked with at the combine, went to his pro day, and spent plenty of times with him.

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
