Sherrod Martin Might Not Be That Bad

For Martin? How so? This wasn't a ranking on just the 32 starters. It was based on all players who had played at least 25 percent snaps. If you narrow it down to just starters (75 percent of snaps played) then his rankings jump to top eleven.

In hindsight I shouldve done it that way, and I'll edit my post to reflect that.

His rankings now jump to 3rd, 6th and 11th. That's good safety play.

If thats the case then your post was misleading

I would think they both played more zone than man so that really doesn't tell who is better overall.

There stats include the area of coverage they were responsible for...it isn't just if they were man on man

Well I have been critical of Godfrey for years just watching him....was using these to just bring the issue backup.

As far as PFF. Yeah, he had a bad year. PFF also graded Captain I believe as better than Nnamdi this year.....Nnamdi poos all over Captain. There were reasons why Nnamdi grades bad in 2011 and that doesn't make him a bad CB. I don't think that year was par for for him is all

But I get you where you were coming from

Well he actually had three bad years.

NA this year was not the NA were accustomed to. He really struggled with the new system in PhIlly. Still, NA is by far the better coverage player, and their coverage grade shows as much. What made the difference is he sucked in run defense and Captian played pretty decent. Otherwise, he would've been overall higher.

Think of it as them grading Peppers in his horrible 2 1/2 sack year. He obviously is a better talent then 98 percent in that field, but for that season he just played poorly enough to have some obvious lesser players be ahead of him.

Martin had a bad sophmore slump.

the entire secondary not named Gamble had a bad year this last season.

They all have talent.

I'm looking forward to the impact our new secondary coach is going to have. I expect improvement throughout the secondary.

Competition, and what should better coaching, is going to improve the teams pass defense.

I agree. Having a coach that better understands our defensive philosophy/schemes should make a huge difference. I expect to see dramatic improvement under Wilks' tutelage.
