Random Trivia Thread

Going off the Random Thought Thread, I wanted to start a Random Trivia Thread. This may have been a thread in the past, but I know bumping old threads is frowned upon.

The rules are as follows: Pose a question, and the first person to answer correctly gets a point. Once the thread starts to die down (if it even picks up), I will compile all the points and post the results.

You have to quote the question in your answer or your answer does not count.

The person who answers correctly must post a new question. That doesn't mean others cannot post questions as well - as it could take a while in between posts.

No cheating - obviously that is more of a frowned upon rule than a written rule, but it is more fun when you can come up with the answers on your own - and it helps you retain that knowledge.

So, make the questions hard enough that looking up the answers is really hard (or will take a while for those that choose to look them up).

Posting question 1 in a reply thread so this long post isn't quoted in the results.

Question 1: Name every professional sports team whose team name does not end in the letter s.

Utah Jazz, Colorado Avalanche, Orlando Magic. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I used to know 7 NCAA teams that didn't end with the letter s.

Question 2: You are a contestant on a game show hosted by Monty. You are presented with three doors. Behind one of the three doors is $1,000,000. Behind the other two are a goat or a lifetime supply of Wheaties. You are asked to pick a door. After you pick a door Monty reveals* that either the goat or the Wheaties is behind one of the doors that you did not pick. He then offers you a chance to keep the door your originally picked, or to switch to the remaining door.

If you want to maximize your chances of winning the $1,000,000 should you switch doors, keep your original door, or does it not matter?

Okay, so maybe a little tough first 2 questions to start off the thread; especially being a mainly NFL thread and Monty Hall Paradox being pretty hard to grasp.

Question 1 answer: (I prefaced this by saying pro teams, but neglected to specify I meant NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB. No discredit to soccer or the WNBA, I was just looking for the big 4. The answer is Miami Heat, Utah Jazz, OKC Thunder, Orlando Magic, Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche, Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox.

Question 2 answer: Switching picks gives you a severe advantage. A 1/3 chance becomes a 2/3 chance by switching.

In an attempt to make the thread a little less hard for a Saturday, question number 3 follows.

    • lol well that kinda ended up working out in the end, even though I still don't have my jersey yet. Was supposed to ship by tomorrow this time, but just got another email saying it was delayed another 3 weeks and because it's been delayed so long, I had to tell them to keep the order or cancel it, but gave me a 25% off my next order as an apology. Well, my original fear came true and they are now selling the FUSE version (but still not the Blue unfortunately) before the one I ordered was ever shipped. But that's awesome, because I was able to use that coupon to order the FUSE instead and then cancelled the original order.  So I got the jersey I wanted for only $6.30 more than the crappier version costs, and it also says it will be shipped immediately and get here early next week, or 2 weeks before the other was now supposed to be shipped out.
    • I've watched this and think we are well underway.  Believe it or not, Bryce is a big part of this.  The way he bounced back with such grace.  And we've got a lot of young players who want to make their mark, Dave is giving them an opportunity.  I loved our draft.  I like the number of guys we brought in, and they will help build the culture we want under Dave.  We're getting closer, and I think we'll see more wins this year than most of the board. The right culture breeds winning, and winning builds the right culture.  Imho, it's coming.
    • As others have said it's both. One creates the other. But it also takes time sometimes years. And there have been teams lately with new car smell coaching staffs that looked like they were putting it together quickly but things came crashing back down to Earth. Sustainability is the key. For that to happen the meddling of our owners has to stop and they cannot be tempted to return to their ways over any bump in the road either.
