Yeah, its just the Alabama Sports Writers Association. But if you realized just how far up the University of Alabama's ass that most sports writers in the state of Alabama keep their noses, you'd know that this kind of "honor" is actually pretty amazing.

It's possible no one in the game of football has had a better, more successful two-year run than Cam Newton.

In 2010, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound quarterback led Auburn to its first national title in 53 years, winning the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award — given to the nation's top college player — and the Davey O'Brien Award — as the nation's top quarterback. He was also named an Associated Press First-Team All-American and the SEC Offensive Player of the Year.

After being selected by the Carolina Panthers with the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, Newton went on to set not only rookie records at quarterback, but all-time marks. He was named the AP's Offensive Rookie of the Year and was selected to replace Super Bowl-bound quarterback Eli Manning on the NFC's Pro Bowl roster in a season in which he became the first player in NFL history to pass for 4,000 yards and run for at least 500.

His 4,051 yards passing set an NFL rookie record, while his 14 rushing touchdowns is the most ever by an NFL quarterback in a single season.

Newton can now add one more accolade to his ever-growing resume as he was selected the Alabama Sports Writers Association's Pro Athlete of the Year.

I read it and felt the same why...I was quite surprised considering how much some of these writers were going out of their way to drum up any false story about Cam and his father receiving money from Auburn..

I started to realize that they hated the fact that Auburn lucked out and got him more so than they hated Cam.
