Next GM will be busy, and the changes may not be pleasant

Are you saying that Danny Morrison will possibly be let go?

It's possible, depending on how much control the next GM wants and how bad Mr Richardson wants that person to run the team...

For example, let's say Richardson wants Cowher to run the team, but Cowher insists that he would only come if he were the team president... At that point the decision simply comes down to whether or not Richardson wants Cowher bad enough to relieve (or reassign) Morrison...

That said, there are only a select few who would/could command that kind of power...

I think Morrison is safe. JR is first and foremost a business man and he understands that the roles of GM and President are 2 completely different jobs and that 1 person couldn't possibly devote the time and attention necessary to each position.

I'm probably 90% sure that Smith retires after the season. Higher if we get new coaches. He's not going to want to put up with another rebuild.

I certainly hope Smitty doesn't go out like that... But, I definitely could see him doing it for the reasons you mentioned and he seems at peace with football now. I really hope he doesn't retire after this season though.

That being said, just because we'll be bringing in another coaching staff doesn't mean it'll be a rebuild. Look what the Niners did.
