Point of clarification (GM search)

All of the statements we've been hearing about GM candidates have been hearsay and speculation.

Neither Ernie Accorsi nor Jerry Richardson has made any official statement.

I put more stock in some than others , but at this point its all still rumor.

this is one reason I was stirring the pot so much in the Beane thread, nobody has said anything officially and that much uproar over a beat writers pure speculations was hysterical. I couldn't help myself in that thread.

Working on the profiles. Want to put them all up at once.

FYI: The new name mentioned by Adam Schefter is Joey Clinkscales, Director of Player Personnel for the Raiders.

I heard Joey Clinkscales can really scout talent. As soon as the season is over we have to be on the move with this GM search. I can see a couple interviews take place next week.

When was the last time Jerry Richardson made an official statement?

When was the last time Jerry Richardson made an official statement?

About once a century.

Reporters have been calling Accorsi for comment. He isn't giving any.

Where are the leaks coming from? Don't know, but I'd be cautious about getting too excited while it's all just hearsay.

Still, it's all we've got at the moment.

Based on reports (such as they are) here are the names I take most seriously right now:

Marc Ross

Dave Gettleman

Tom Gamble

Steve Keim

Joey Clinkscales

Others I put less stock in:

George Kokinis

Scot McCloughan

Based on the Accorsi cronyism from last time, Heckert might be on there too. Unless he just goes ahead and ends up with Reid from the jump.

But, definitely, anything right now is from agents to willing press. Nothing more.

Hell, we've got a week and change before all this becomes real anyway. I'm sure they have a list. They're just not going to let people know about it.

Multiple reliable sources confirmed Ross was the leading guy. There are others inside the organazation that can talk with the likes of Schefter and such. We are by far the best destination for a GM landing spot. Franchise QB? Check. Franchise MLB? Check. 2 double digit sack artist bookends in CJ and Hardy? Check. Seriously out of the Jets, Chargers, Chiefs, Jags and Browns. We are by far the most attractive destination. All those teams aside from the Chargers are a long ways away from being contenders and none other than the Chargers have stability at the QB position and you can also argue a 30 year old Rivers thats on the decline is a big question mark as well.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
