Bad trades

Thought I had seen some bad trades before, but a former Expos fan brought this one up on the Angels board...

To Cleveland: Cliff Lee, Grady Sizemore, Brandon Philips

To Montreal: Bartolo Colon

Ouch.

Wow....ouchy!

This is one that stands out also.

Varitek and Lowe to the Red Sox for Heathcliff Slocumb (to Seattle). I have always had a great distain for Slocumb and I don't know why. He did suck for the Phils but so have many others.

Orioles trade pitchers Curt Schilling, Pete Harnisch and outfielder Steve Finley to the Houston Astros for First Baseman Glenn Davis.

Red Sox trade first baseman Jeff Bagwell to the Houston Astros for pitcher Larry Andersen.

Mariners trade pitcher Derek Lowe and catcher Jason Varitek to the Boston Red Sox for closer Heathcliff Slocumb

Athletics trade first baseman Mark McGwire to the St. Louis Cardinals for pitchers T.J. Matthews, Blake Stein, and Eric Ludwick.

And my personal favorite:

NY Mets trade Nolan Ryan,Catcher Frank Estrad To Angels,For shortstop Jim Fregosi

    • That Peter Principle is the real deal a whole lot of times.  And HC just seems to me to be a totally different job than the subordinate positions of coordinator (all three phases, I think John Harbaugh was a ST coach) . Anyhow it is real easy for HC people to be overwhelmed and unprepared. Such a different job. Those that hire ex HCs as mentors or coordinators are smart. But many just suck at it.  You have to have all the organization in place, front office too.  I tend to be supportive, at this stage, of the people we have and would be willing to stick with them like 5 years before judging their future. Because we need to establish continuity. At some point I would like to have OC that called the plays. It is too much for one guy.
    • Maybe. That's not a Bills team that has been playing very elite, however.  If it is close or we win, I am not exactly gonna chalk that up to us being a contender.
    • Eagles and Ravens come to mind
