Canes Meet With CFA Danny DeKeyser (Signs With Red Wings)

Recommended Posts

Yesterday the Carolina Hurricanes met with college free agent Danny DeKeyser. DeKeyser is a defenseman for Western Michigan and is being coveted by every team in the NHL.

Last year, the Canes used Rod Brind'Amour and Ron Francis to sell Jeremy Welsh on joining the Canes. It is thought that they did the same thing to DeKeyser yesterday.

DeKeyser is expected to make a decision by the end of the week.

From ESPN Rumor Mill:

Since DeKeyser is said to want play in the NHL immediately, the promise of a lineup spot right off the bat could go a long way in wooing the young defenseman.

Don't know how many teams could offer playing time immediately, but surely it can't be many.

That might take his favorite team Detroit out of it.

Boys I see Carolina as being a real possibility at landing Danny, who is supposedly the next big thing.

And boy do we need some young talent. Outside of Rask and Murphy, I don't think we have any high talent prospects in the organization.

    • Who were we going to trade up with? The Dolphins wanted Proctor, the Rams were vehement on taking Ty Simpson, the Ravens wanted Ioane, and the Bucs werent trading with us except for maybe a kings ransom. Even if we wanted to move, we had no partner. Moot point.
    • Devin Lloyd is a stud lb but who is next to him? Prince and Nic should improve. Lee was super value but i am not counting this fourth round chicken yet. I would expect some improvement; hope to eat my words w/ a top ten D.
    • I mean I agree about diminished Cam probably still being viable. Even though it gave a preview of how teams would defend the pass against a limited QB. There was an issue with the upcoming contract he was due to get and his expectations vs the new reality of his physical status - that people tend to  overlook when looking back on it  It had an effect on things I believe   But I do have to ask… what about Tepper’s second major move? fuging clueless   I mean I would take even an injured  Cam over Bryce all day long.
