UDFA Signings Thread

If he is a problem you cut him. Late round pick / UDFA is not gonna hurt the team.

Reward far and away out weighs the risk.

Its like someone risking 100 dollars to win 10,000 at a chance of 50%. You would be dumb as fug not to take that bet.

How do you know that we didnt try to grab him as an UDFA? Unlike the 254 prospects taken in the draft, Rogers has the ability to choose where to go as a UDFA. The Bills are crossing their fingers that he can stay clean.

A GM would have risked his job on the line by taking a kid like Rogers. Doesnt matter if its a late round or not.

Fact is 32 teams passed on him ~ 7 times each. Choosing high risk/low character guys is not a Championship mentality for any team. Look at the Bengals...loaded with talent, but never seem to get over that hump...how a guy conducts his personal business affects the teams.

A guy doesn't just show up on Sundays. They are in the weight rooms, position-specific meetings, in the hotels, etc., etc. with other players...they have an impact & usually negative. A strong locker room can help out a guy who wants to help himself...but I am guessing these GMs did not get that sense form Rogers (that's just my guess, b/c his talent is unmistakeable).

I understand your point, but I will not complain that character is important to our owner.

How is it high risk as a late round / UDFA player when we have practically nothing invested in him?

Its like betting 100 dollars to win 10,000 at 50%. Would be a dumbass to not take that bet.

From what I heard he cleaned up his act and his teammates and coaches had positive things to say about him this past year.

You bring him and and hope he can be a viable player. If he is you got an insanely gifted talented young man. If not, cut him, no biggie.

So a 5th or 6th rounder that doesnt pan out is "risking your job"?

If thats the case every GM would / should be fired.

Like I mentioned earlier I would have offered him double or triple the standard UDFA contract. I would have made sure I got him into camp.

Knowing that a guy had previous off field issues and you still take him, I say hell yea.

Just be damn happy about what we got done with the damn few picks we had. Gettleman must feel really good with the addition of Ginn and Hixon. Quit the whining. Go cry to the wife and kids about it. Today is a new day.

Reward > Risk.

To one is gonna fault a GM for taking a flyer on a number 1 caliber WR late in the draft / UDFA.

I am extremely happy with our draft.

But to be ok with passing up someone as gifted as Rogers with little to no risk is not ok.

Most 6th,7th and UDFA dont even make the rosters. Nothing to lose and all to gain.

Im still pumped and ready to kick arse this season.

Re-read the post: A high risk 'player'. That means a guy whose conduct could be detrimental to himself or others & therefor hurt the team in any # of ways. You can't just call a 'do-over' when dealing with human beings. I'm guessing you do not have kids, by the reasoning, but if you did would you let them hangout with a guess drug dealer, let them do drugs & then say well if they didn't get arrested or die, no biggie...just don't do it again?! Human nature doesn't work that way...there is impact to areas that are not easily identifiable by watching a team play on Sundays.

"From what I've heard"? Link please. Do you have friends on the team? If so, & if they are standing behind Rogers, why has none of this convinced people (Coaches & GMs) who have their lives depending on getting the 'right' players?

When 32 teams passes him up 7x, he must've not helped himself enough through the interviewing process.

Everytime the Patriots and Billichick were on the clock, I was prepared that they were going to take the kid. Especially being very very thin at receiver and I would say we're better at that position than they are. When Billichick, a HC whose known to take troubled players before passes him up, i don't know what to say.

Like I said, if he is a problem and a negative impact on the team then you cut him. As a late pick / UDFA you have zero - little invested. No big deal.

Wow, a link to an editorial with 2 former Tenn Tech coach making a statement & some assist coach who like him. That's really a lot of people saying he has gotten his life straight. Reallly?!

I hope that's not how much research you put into all of your statements, b/c if it is, I might as well put 'ignore' on; I know you are usually more well-reasoned than this.

Let's re-visit this discussion in about 1.5 - 2 years. "fuggin steal of the CENTURY"? You are really putting your reputation on the line; point noted...let's observe where this ends up. For Rogers sake, I hope you are right. From a point of reality, it is less likely to be the case.

So Rogers will be the Bills starting WR#1 by next year...steal of the Century! lol

Lmao brah I simply said his coach / coaches had good things to say about him, you asked for a link and I produced one. Never said anything about alot of people saying anything.

There was zero bad reports coming out of Tenn Tech about Rogers last year that I know of. If there was please enlighten me.

From the info we have he seemed to have got his act together.

Rogers is a dynamic WR. If he has matured and becomes a beast WR for the Bills than yes that is the steal of the century in the UDFA.

    • Everyone keeps arguing all these teams have great TE's that made them successful. THATS BS! What makes those teams great is QB play and we don't have that. So again even getting a NON-INLINE TE who can run a fast 40 time isnt going to get us anywhere without competent QB play consistently. Which we don't have by a long shot. So honestly all these great teams have a TE argument doesnt hold water to me.  Mahomes would be nasty without Kelce, Lamar would blow you away without Andrews, does it help? of course any weapon will help but only if you have someone making those correct reads week to week. When we have that then I'd be all in on a game breaking TE but unfortunately we are stuck with one of the most inconsistent starting QB's currently in the NFL.  Not to mention all the TE's mentioned are COMPLETE TE's not just a receiving threat with drop issues which Sadiq does. Argue all you want but nothing will change that fact other than getting a consistent QB week to week in a Panthers uniform which doesnt seem to be happing anytime soon.
    • They don't have guidelines for hand size for the backup QB.
    • It wasn't sarcasm at all, the Panthers scouting requirements for TE's are similar to the ones they use for OL as far as height and arm length are concerned. 100% true.    It's why I've been surprised that they've kept Tremble since the new staff got into place. They'll take a chance on guys later in the draft with shorter arms but if it's going to be a big contract or a high draft pick, expect them to follow the guidelines that the beat reporters have been mentioning because of fan interest in Sediq.
