Star/Short vs. Dareus/Cox/Brockers

Recommended Posts

But, "again and again" that's not what I'm asking.

I'm asking for you guys to compare Star and Short to the previous DTs that weve seen mocked to us in the past.

i answered it. i said there isn't much of a drop-off, if there is any at all from those three guys meaning i think they are comparable overall. i think star will show to be better than any of them and short will be able to hold his own against any of them from a production standpoint.

i don't hold star getting drafted later in the draft against him and i don't think that the fact that dareus was drafted 3rd overall compared to where star was drafted has any real bearing on how star was viewed by scouts compared to dareus. star fell for one reason...teams were worried about his heart.

from a talent and potential standpoint he absolutely warranted being considered a top 3-5 pick and should be in the discussion as one of the best 5 DTs to come out of college in recent years.

aside from the motor question (that i think was likely the result of him playing too heavy and too many snaps) i think he's as good as fletcher cox and i think that he'll be able to produce more than cox did as a rookie, tho that will have more to do with his surrounding cast members on the line.

brockers was my favorite potential pick from last year, but i think both star and short are better.

I know you did. I'm just making sure you know that I never said to assume we take those guys over Cam and Luke.

And I also was a big fan of Brockers. I liked him more than Cox. But I would have to disagree with you on Short being better than Brockers. I think Brockers will become one of the best DT in the NFL very soon. He has amazing size standing at 6'6". He's as good an interior pass rusher as he is stuffing the run. He does so much more behind the scene (statistic). He's not going to be near a Geno Atkins in stats but he does so much on game day.

    • I member him staying after practices with only to see he was wearing heavy weight vest, one of his trademarks. He also put in 10 years, right? People forget he was the ST stud that called the snap and made sure everyone lined up right. He was one of the "glue" guys that bought his "lunch pail" to work.... He was a willing solider, all teams need a couple of them. He blocked for sooo many panthers RBs- Davis, lane, Williams, foster, goings and when there was huge injuries he took over the starter duties and had a couple 100 yard games. If you followed hoover, he took the perfect RB path cause he was just a slow heavy one himself....
    • Walker likely depends on a couple of things. What exactly did Dan promise him, to start with.  How much other interest he actually had for a starter job at high pay is another question. It isn’t outside the realm of possibility that he could stay on as a swing tackle waiting to take Moton’s spot when it opens.    I can’t get myself to consider Icky as a viable anything until we see him back on the field.     Hunt seems to be a team player and good guy but I don’t think he is worth what he is being paid. I have him tentatively earmarked for cap causality in the near future.
    • Definitely epic tv..... A man who wont cheat for a poke dont want one bad enough.
