J.R. Smith being "Courted" By The Bobcats

The contracts signed by J.J. Redick and Kevin Martin are similar to what J.R. Smith can get from the Knicks.

J.R. would re-sign with the Knicks if the money is comparable. Also being courted by Pistons, Mavs, Bucks, Rockets and Bobcats.

This particular guy writes for the New York Daily News and has 50,000 followers... so I would say he is legit.

Now that it's out that Smith is looking for money similar to what Redick and Martin got...

Do you tell how Al that you can sign him and J.R. Smith if he take a slight pay cut (Al Jefferson: $14 million, J.R. Smith: 10 million)?

Or do you just stick with Gerald Henderson?

Which looks better...

Option A

PG: Kemba Walker

SG: J.R. Smith

SF: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

PF: Cody Zeller

C: Al Jefferson

OR

Option B

PG: Kemba Walker

SG: Gerald Henderson

SF: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

PF: Cody Zeller

C: Al Jefferson

Team A is perhaps the worst defensive team in the league but it would score a lot of points. Team B would be a bit better defensively but less offensive potential(less spacing).

Most likely the best overall starting lineup would be

Kemba

Smith

MKG

Biyombo

Jefferson

With Zeller and Sessions playing heavy minutes off the bench.

You have to wonder with Frank letting everyone know J.R.'s market, how much he will actually make.

I take the tweet as J.R. would resign with the Knicks at $8 mil (because they're the Knicks), but let's say someone like Charlotte comes in and offers Smith $10 million per year (basically what the Cats have invested in Henderson).

Does J.R. take the extra $2 million per year, or does he stay in New York...

At 10 mil, I easily take JR over Hendo. Only Bobcats fans would think that Hendo is worth that money. I just don't know what direction this team is leaning toward with the possible signing of Big Al and now courting JR. You can't tell me that with those two additions we're not going to be a Playoffs team this upcoming season. From thinking that we could have "3" 1st rounders next year to potentially having "none" (Chicago, Top10 protected: TNT).

    • Pretty sure that a QB contract payday is all the competition any QB in this league needs, I don't think a competent backup is going to make them play any harder when the current situation wouldn't warrant the contract extension yet anyways. Your opening point in this post is also the problem, "Bryce has shown signs of improving", but that's still all he's shown, and he's only showing that because of just how bad he was to start his career. If he played like last season from the beginning and never improved one bit, then I actually think more fans would be ready to move on from him, which is what's weird.  It's like going from one of the biggest draft busts of all time into the 25th best QB in the league over 3 years means he deserves a long term $40+ million a year contract extension. Improvement shouldn't be the goal when the result of said improvement is still bottom of the league levels.
    • Yeah, but we've seen him do it. Just not often. I think that's the reason for the taller WRs. Would likely be a problem finding someone like Jimmy Horn in the mess.
    • And the Rams, Seattle, Patriots, Green Bay, Jaguars and the Bills who all made the playoffs and in case you forgot, Seattle and the Patriots played in the SB. By any measure, that's pretty brutal.
