The mistake that will come back to haunt us MKG over Barnes?

YOLO!

MJ gotta be shaking his head passing up on his on his alma mater own player Harrison Barnes. Watching this guy throughout the season and he has star potential, something I don't think MKG will ever be.

I didn't know Barnes was so damn athletic he has had a couple of dunk on the year type dunks throughout the season and that dunk he had a couple of days ago in the USA scrimmage was filthy nasty with the left hand. The guy also has a silky smooth offensive game and he will only get better on defense.

MKG is no bust, but I think we will regret passing on the fellow TarHeel Harrison Barnes that kid is legit.

In hindsight how do you now feel about taking MKG over Barnes?

I wanted to trade with Cleveland to get HB and could have gotten PJ3 at 24 (I think).

But I love MKG. Barnes will be the better scorer, but MKG brings a lot of intangibles to the table.

With his defense and rebounding MKG could become an all star caliber player even if he only averages @15 points per game.

Basically I think they will be two very different types of players.

In hindsight, of course I regret passing up on Barnes/Drummond for MKG.

The Mistakes:

2012: MKG over Barnes/Drummond

2011: Biyombo over Kawhi/Thompson

2009: Hendo over Jrue Holiday

2008: DJ over Lopez/Hibbert

2007: Brandan Wright over Noah

2006: Morrison over Roy/Gay

I feel confident that we have actually got it right with Cody Zeller this year.

Barnes has reached his ceiling. MKG hasn't come close. I promise MKG has wayyyyy more potential. It's not even close. Short term Barnes is better. Long term, MKG all day

Yes, it's very easy to look at it that way in hopes of having something to believe in. But, in reality Barnes is the better player at this point and MKG has shown very little to be on the same level with Barnes. "Long term"? How long will it be? It doesnt look like it's going to be this upcoming season. I really think MKG is still a project who needs developing the next 2-3 years. Though, no one really knows if he is even going to reach that "potential" we all Bobcats fans think he will; i.e. Bismack Biyombo.

Ok now I know you are not a hardcore basketball fan.

Barnes has already reached his ceiling? You do know he is only 23yrs old right? So how can MKG get better but Barnes can't?

Barnes is already the better player, and as I said before his offensive game is way better than MKG. Barnes is gonna be a star in this league.

I was watching the USA blue/white scrimmage and HB and MKG had about the same impact on the game, and they both got their points in a similar fashion... I think what has and will separate them is their shooting.

I admit, I wasn't high on Barnes coming out because he didn't really show the ability to create off the dribble in college, and i wanted him to do well becauee I went to school with him. After one year, I'm leaning towards saying that I wish we would've picked HB, but if MKG develops a competent shot, I think it will be a wash.

Look at the roster Barnes has around him and look at the roster MKG has around him. That makes the biggest difference of anything. Everything else goes out the door. Not to mention the shitty coaching/lack of mentoring MKG had last year. It was impossible for a 18 year old and he did damn well

It doesnt matter. If someone can BALL, they can demonstrate that they can BALL on a good or bad team. Man among boys; i.e. Andre Drummond in summer league. I love MKG very much and was the one vouching for him to be the no.2 pick in the 2012 draft, but Jeff Taylor looked way much better than MKG in Summer League. MKG looked like the 31st pick.

I love MKG and really hope he will reach his "potential" sooner than later, but if I have to go back to last year draft I wouldn't hesitate to take Barnes over MKG excluding Drummond in this case.

Wrong Again!

MKG has more freedom as he is playing with lesser talent, he can get more shots on this team. If we had Barnes on our team last year he would probably be our leading scorer.

Barnes does not impact the game like MKG can in terms of defense, bball IQ even passing.

Sure his jumper is better but his off dribble drive is still stiff and unnatural.

Barnes should be a better scorer than MKG and this was expected in the draft.

Barnes ceiling is a Sean Elliot type guy. MKG ceiling is Scottie Pippen(who could not shoot till season 3) impacts.

In the regular season Barnes was lost in the offense and a lesser scorer. Sure he had a decent playoffs but that is what his supporters are basing the comparison on.

    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
