GREAT article on Cam: "Don't Call It Redemption"

You're probably one of the fans that loved to claim that he was sulking on the sidelines when he wears a towel on his head. he wore a towel on his head on the sideline of every game when he was playing for Auburn. They went 14-0 that year and he had one of the best seasons in the history of the game. So what was he sulking about?

His exact word choice I don't remember since it was years ago, the overall point was the same. I just think you are going through quite the mental gymnastics to downplay this.

The media lied about Smith and about Cam and Cam even lied about himself HE WAS NEVER IMMATURE. /s

Ask Steve Smith that question.

As much as I love Steve, I'm not putting a whole lot of stock into him saying things to the media out of frustration in a losing season. All those guys were upset, it damn sure wasn't just Cam. He just had a hard time not showing it so visibly. He was a rookie, it happens.

The good thing is, Cam knew it, and he went out of his way to work on it. Not just as a player in the NFL, but a man. Certainly he has matured, but not in the way that the media incessantly wants to push, like he was some kind of monster. He was young, and still is. It's life.

The whole irony behind the those in the media's attempt at showing Cam how far they can go at ruining his image with nothing more than narrowminded and shallow psychology, is that a year later we're watching them go out of their way to protected one of their prize QBs, RG III, as he plays out what the media was falsely trying to paint Cam into last season.

We're now seeing first hand, that the media's labeling doesn't always apply to the people they love to slap the labels unto to. That is why it's best to research a player's background and see what others are really saying about him before we make up our mind.

RG III was suppose to be the antithesis to Cam because the media framed him in that light. It now seems that they are indeed opposites but not quite the way those in the media intended for it to be.

IMO, the media just want to play gods over Cam. They want to continually stroke their ego over the false stiff they make up on him and watching to see how many folks buy into it. They seem to do it quite a bit. Funny thing is, fans either don't realize it or simply play along for their own selfish gain.

Like Cam saying that he's growing and maturing is in line with the silly ish the media has been making such a big deal over. If i am not mistaking, he's still wearing the towel on his head.

I don't really care about brady, this was a thread about newton. You can use whatever label that fits your confirmation bias.

Do you remember when Smitty called out Cam for sulking on the bench during a blowout? He said something like "Jimmy stands up and watches you play every single game, the least you could do is stop sulking and watch him finish the game out."

Is smitty also part of the big bad media in this situation?

Is that what Smitty really said? I remember the quote, it wasn't quite the way you're framing it. I guess you do like the baseless attacks on Cam.

I wonder if a camera followed some of you folks around, I wonder what would the world see and how  would the media interprete it?

Go ahead, frame it properly. Either way, he was called out for acting immature on the sidelines, period.

Cam himself would acknowledge that he was immature as a rooki

I am sure Luck would say the same thing.  The difference is the media tries to make their point by cricizing everythinf Cam does. That is how the media go about playing out the narrative on these QBs. They already painted Cam as som "troubled kid with a past, who they need to keep an "eye on." They are either going to stick with it if he proves them wrong or continue to try and make their argument by picking him apart and spinning everything he does as proof. You see exactly which way they are going.

They could easily treat all the QBs the same but knows if they show Luck not to be any different than Cam in the maturity, leadership and intelligence department, then why paint him as the next Heir Apparent if he's no different than Cam.

“I watched D.A. and Jimmy (Clausen), they don’t play in 20-something games last year. And they get up and they observe and learn and get those mental reps,” Smith said, via Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer. “I told him, ‘You can get some mental reps or you can sit on that bench and sulk.’”

Coach Ron Rivera didn’t have any problem with Smith giving Newton a piece of his mind.

“He’s a team captain and he went up and expressed his feelings. That’s between them,” Rivera said. “I do know that team captains have that responsibility. They feel they have the responsibilities to the team and they’ll handle them accordingly.”

It’s not the first time that Newton has had teammates talk to him about his body language and demeanor during games. Tackle Jordan Gross and center Ryan Kalil told him he needs to avoid such negative impressions when things aren’t going well for the team. Newton said he appreciated the veterans talking to him at the time, although Thursday night shows there’s still some work to do on that front. The quarterback will next speak to the media on Wednesday, when his conversation with Smith is sure to be on the agenda.

Kalil and Gross in on the conspiracy as well

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
