Baseball in the Carolinas

If we brought baseball to Charlotte, we would be (I'm guessing) the smallest metro area with three major league sports teams.

Charlotte (775,000)

Panthers

Hornets

Off the top of my head I can name 10 smaller cities that currently have 3 or 4 pro franchises. Assuming the major sports leagues in the US are the NFL, MLB, NBA, & NHL. In fact, other than San Francisco, I can't think of a bigger city than Charlotte that doesn't have at least 3 of the 4 leagues represented.

St Louis (318,000):

Cardinals

Rams

Blues

Oakland (400,000):

Raiders

Athletics

Warriors

Denver (634,000)

Nuggets

Avalanche

Broncos

Rockies

Atlanta (443,000)

Braves

Falcons

Hawks

Tampa Bay (347,000)

Rays

Buccaneers

Lightning

Minneapolis (392,000)

Twins

Vikings

Wild

Wolverines

Detroit (701,000)

Lions

Tigers

Red Wings

Pistons

Boston (636,000)

Celtics

Bruins

Red Sox

Patriots

Pittsburgh (306,000)

Steelers

Penguins

Pirates

Cleveland (390,000)

Indians

Browns

Cavaliers

Look at the metropolitan area populations.  All but one (hey, its Cleveland) have larger metro populations than Charlotte.
