A prediction I've had at my tailgate took 'till Week 17 to happen...

Since Week 2, I have been joking with my tailgate that Melvin White would get a pick 6.  I have made this prediction every pre-game and it finally happened.

Melvin, I salute you.  I know it's been rough for him a lot this year but for an UDFA rookie, he's done fine for me.  I'm not christening him a main stay starter for next season but he's shown promise albeit with some glaring rookie speed bumps.

His pick-6 was the complete momentum shifter in the ATL game.

He's been a nice surprise, as has the rest of our secondary.

I mean I understand that with our front seven an average secondary will be a good secondary but what I like seeing that rises above that are those game changing plays.  Mitchell, White, Captain and Florence have been able to to just that this year.  Not saying we're fine back there by any means, just that a CB1 with White and Captain in the nickel would be a solid secondary and next step.

I agree with you.  They've been better, much better, than I expected - it's not just the front seven, the entire defense is playing well, and the CBs are a big part of that

in all fairness.. if the goal line wasnt RIGHT THERE... it wouldnt of been a pick 6... still nice int though, but lets not get carried away.. we still need a 1/2 draft pick corner

Yea I agree, White has been picked on by a lot of teams but I feel he's endured it all pretty well.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
