Crabtree or Boldin

Everyone is making a big deal about Crabtrees return but Boldin is another threat that can't be forgotten. I feel like White can man either but does the Captain have what it takes to shut down Boldin or Crabtree? Boldin did his thing on the Ravens squad and has over 1100 yards thus season I believe.

I would rather see Florence and White combos.

I disagree.

I think that Captain can and should cover Boldin, as he has the experience. I don't think you can put a rookie on a Superbowl caliber receiver. Even if Captain is shorter, he can still keep up with 81 and hit him at the point of the catch. For Crabtree, I think you need Florence with help from Mitchell's speed over the top and hits at the catch. That leaves any combination of Kuechley, Davis, Mikell and Blackburn to cover Davis, and White on whoever they have in the slot.

You have to keep Boldin from getting his hands on it or he'll make the catch. Captain on Boldin would be I'll-advised.

In the end, we play a lot of zone coverage anyways so the question of who takes who in man coverage doesn't seem to be too important.

Too bad we could be playing as many as 5 rookies on defense at one time.

I just hope we learned what film study during the bye is. I also am hopeful that we recognize the play calling changes in the playoffs the 49ers make. I would put a huge emphasis on last years playoff games.

Patten will be the WR that will be in the slot position. But they are known for moving Crabtree in the slot sometime as well. We have to keep some good on Crabtree at all time. Another thing our secondary must do to their WR core  is jam the crap out of them. Sick of seeing these 10 yard cushions. If we play off way to much. Kaep will throw out routes to the sidelines and slants all day on us. I know we are trying to keep things in front of us. We have to chance the bump and run more in this game. There is no tomorrow. We must do what ever it takes to win.

Zone coverage is good but the rush will have to get there because the zone only holds up for so long until a proven receiver like Boldin finds the soft spot.  Davis will eat the zone out of the gate.  I agree with you, Captain on Boldin full time is a recipe for disaster.  I would put Captain in the slot because he will have help from the lbers.

I like Florence on Crabtree since he isn't a burner and White has the speed to take on Boldin, just not sure the jam will work.  But White is our best option on Boldin and Florence with his veteran savvy can keep Crabtree cool because Florence will lay the hammer down.  I think our safeties should watch the seam routes and roll over to Davis because this is the time of year where he will get stanking as well as Boldin or Crabtree if they play the slot.  I like Captain in the slot because he does have the tools to recover on quick slant routes and hooks.

I think a good (early and often) mix of shutting Gore down and keeping Kaep supine will alleviate the concerns of Crabtree etc

Good point as long as we don't have to crowd the box and jam the receivers.  I think cover 2 will be necessary this game with so fake blitzes to confuse Kaep.

    • I'm salty every time I see someones mid picks become stars while we throw first and second rounders over and over and they all stink outside of Tet (who still has a lot to prove, imo)
    • There is a contingent that is total Bryce but they weathervane with the wind. When the good Bryce wind blows about once or twice a month we hear a lot from them. But they are always pro Bryce, they just don’t pipe up too much when he sucks. I can’t speak for them, as far as what they are looking at.    In a second contingent, the collective mind is made up. He has had had basically three years worth of starts that might include a top tier outing or two, a few second tier outings, offset by about the same number of bottom tier outings which actually may have the edge there.  The rest of his stuff is third tier and that is going to be the bulk of his starts. We want to move on. And we aren’t getting off of that hill until he puts us off of it. He has not.    There is a third contingent that has no conviction and definitely weather vanes. Bryce is good. Bryce isn’t good. Depending on the latest game. They will buy into 7 on 7 success so that should tell you something.
    • Nacua is really fuging good. He might be a better version of Cooper Kupp.
