The history behind the word is irrelevant.  It is the intent of the word by the person making the racial slur that is really relevant.  If your intent by calling someone a cracker is the same as someone calling someone a n*****......then the word is just as offensive and the people making both statements should be considered just as ignorant and vile.

I am not minimizing the extreme hate and ignorance expressed by someone who would call someone else a n*****.  It is flat out wrong.

 

My only point is that many minimize the use of other racial slurs when the intent is just as hate filled, ignorant, and wrong.

 

Both are equally wrong and disgusting in my eyes.

The word has its power because of the intent by the person using said word.  N****** is a terrible word because most using it do so with hatred and bigotry in their hearts.  However, someone can use a different racial slur (whether it be against a black, white, asian, jew, etc) with that same hatred and bigotry in their hearts.....and that slur is just as bad as N******.

 

One is no worse than the other....and one is no better than the other.  It does NOT minimize either word.  It shows that there are idiots and bigots of every race, color, gender, etc.

Slavery was terrible.....it is now over....I have nothing to do with what happened.  And....neither did any African American living today.

 

And my father's family are of French Huganauts descent....one of the most religiously persecuted groups in Europe.  And many of them were killed for their beliefs.  Some were beheaded....some were hanged....others were burned.
