The worst article ever published by the Charlotte Observer

As for p55, and his insult filled temper tantrums directed at anyone who disagrees with him. On the matter regarding other players and leadership, Greg Hardy offered his opinion yesterday on what Steve Smith's departure would mean to the locker room, his word was "devastating".

Hey, but the "journalists" know much better than he does about the Panthers locker room, right?

Overthecap has a bit more..

If 2016 is already a foregone conclusion which GM is responsible?

The point is that this contract was expected to restructured in 2014 which is exactly what Gettleman is trying to do.  Smitty is acting like this is news to him and I am sure they discussed it in 2012 when they signed it.

Are you really naive enough to believe that players tell you half of what goes on behind closed doors.  You think they aren't coached to tell you the same old non-issue discussions.  Do you think anyone would talk negatively about Smith while he still in the locker room and on the team to the media ?   Did players and staff talk about Chud that negatively before he left?  Or did they feel more free to tell things once he left for Cleveland.

Think about it for a minute, would Cam say anything negatively about Smith? If he did would people think that this shows maturity or is another example of Cam's poor leadership. What would happen if a player who is trying to exert his leadership is saying negative things in the press about a player who is very influential in the locker room.

Problems are discussed in private not public.  If there were problems with Smitty you surely wouldn't hear about it in an interview unless it were being thrown out there by an unnamed team source as part of a bigger discussion about the team as a whole which is exactly what happened.

Why would team officials say this was a big problem if it wasn't??  And there are now 2 sources specifically saying it is.

Yeah Love that generic team member speak from Hardy.gald he kept it cool and vanilla. You got this one backwards for sure.Maybe you should reconsider your quest to be apologist for unnamed sources.

Half of the "they" ain't here anymore.

Glad Smiity had the sit down to see what Getts is thinking.

Hope the business end gets sorted soon so the focus can be the field.

I don't care it you disagree with me. everyone is welcome to say what they want.  I am sorry if you thought what I said was an insult I thought is was a descriptor which was self evident.

And you are right Hardy said losing Smith would be devastating and I am sure he believes that 100%.  Do you think he speaks for everyone or just himself?  Again why would team officials say leadership is a problem if it wasn't?

Journalists report what they hear and see.  Hardy says what he thinks and feels.  Again the folks making decisions apparently think it is a problem.  For me I have no clue except what I read and hear from those supposedly in the know.  The difference is I don't pretend to be an insider or have knowledge like you must.

Me too.  I would like Smitty to be here and retire a Panther. Regardless of his issues, he is still one of my favorites.

Please link me to the article where a team official publicly said leadership was a problem, and no I'm not talking about a journalist rumor.

It isn't about this year, it is about going forward and not paying the option which triggers his 2016 salary.

" It is diminished production at a time when his contract is getting larger." Can't talk about 2016 season in this context until 2015 season is over.. that's why I asked how much it is going up this season.

then what you said is incorrect.let's revisit.

No it's not, what he said is correct. The Panthers have to either give him the option bonus which adds 3 million more to his contract over the next three seasons as well as an extra year at 10 million in salary, or a non exercise fee that raises his cap hit 3 million this season.

Aside from those two choices which are both bad the panthers can either have him redo his contract and take a pay cut, cut him out right or trade him.

That's it, those are the options because Steve isn't getting that option bonus or non exercise fee at his age.

sorry see above.diminished production at a time when his contract is getting larger. The only way that can be true is if it was about 2014,
