Draft Day Trades

stirs

Recommended Posts

Sometimes teams move up because they have their eye on a guy who they think will put them over the top.  Atlant moving up for the WR a few yrs back is an example.

There are also other trades, like trades back because the value at your draft position is nothing you have a need for.

This year, who do you see moving up or down in the first round?

I will start off with two teams on opposite ends of the spectrum.

SF has 12 picks, actually 11 now since they gave up a 6th for Gabbert.  With the talent they have on that team, I can see them moving up in several rounds rather than just bringing in 11 new guys, 10 of which might not even make the team.

Baltimore has only 4 picks, dropping back would serve them well.

Maybe the two of them could get together?

With the Falcons going 3/4, I think they will draft Khalil Mack or Anthony Barr.  They also need to focus on their o-line.  I mean didn't we sack Ryan like eight times?

Yeah, I actually think the Clowney talk was go give them some cover in FA where they went after all 34 D guys.

I agree that Mack would be exceptional for them and an OT is a great fallback position for them

Yeah, I think the Falcons will just stay put and pick an OT. Things just aren't the same for them this year -- they're not seen as the team who only needs that one missing piece to go the distance.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned what I think is the most obvious trade scenario -- Cleveland moving up to no.2. Chances are, the Browns won't be in love with all 3 of the 'top tier' quarterbacks. You have the resources, now go and get your franchise guy. The Rams can move down and still get one hell of a pickup. It just makes too much sense.

    • Needs to be a run heavy game. They have allowed 121+ on the ground in the last 3 games including 180 to Tampa yesterday. If they do the whole crowd the box deal like they did against us, push the ball downfield. If we can do it to the Rams and Falcons we can do it to them.
    • Rushing attempts PG are actually the 5th lowest since 1990.
    • team are playing lots of 2 high shell trying to take away the big plays.  But I mean, defenses being scared of QB play.....aids the run game.  I mean, don't pay the QB and have the threat....the safeties aren't going to be fixated on taking away the deep pass and can play the run and cheat on pass attempts.  I think what you are seeing is the most elite QBs are flat out being game planned for to take away the big play.  But if you aren't an elite QB and vertical threat QB.....defenses flat out aren't going to make that league wide shift on your offense.  Take a Bryce.  I would imagine most of his INTs are made by opposing safties over the course of his career (who aren't taking away the vertical but cheating to make plays on the intermediate balls)
