2014 Draft | Core Players

Picks based on CBS prospect ranking | http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings

Offensive LineThe Carolina Panthers are getting younger, and filling key position on the roster for a smash mouth pro style offense like Seattle & 49rs. The middle of the O-line will be anchored by the pro bowl C-Kalil who is a master technician in the run & pass game. Amini & Kugbilla provides the guard combo that has the size, strength,& athletic ability to create true run gaps, and ability to pass protect. Byron Bell provides the most experience at the Tackle position, and his strength is also in the run game. The draft will provide us another tackle that can win the LT position in the off-season, or start at the RT.

Run Game | The run game has been the foundation for the Panther's Offense since the franchise was founded. Recent years have shown decline in the run game due to OL, injures, and passing league, yet the Panthers still manged to be in top 12 in 2013. Panthers philosophy is to play hard nose football and the running game will get a boost with the return of a healthy Stewart in the off-season training along with a younger OL. Mike Tolbert is the Swiss knife of the Panthers playing special team, short-yardage, screens, & goal line plays that produced 7 TD's for the offense. The Backfield Co. provides players with special niche in the offense that will be relied heavily on in the 2014 season.

Passing Game | This unit is in rebuilding mode anchored by TE Greg Olsen, whose production have gone up ever year. Jason Avant and Cotchery provides veteran leadership, reliable target and lost production in FA. The coaches and FO believes that we don't need  a true # 1 WR but instead committee that can produce. The 2014 draft is a deep WR class that will allow the Panther's to draft  starting  WRs that can work outside and provide red-zone target.

Defense | This unit finished # 2 and will improve in 2014 with experienced gained by the younger players. Key addition of Cason, Harper, and Decouds provides experience, veteran leadership, and size for the back-field. In addition, the help of younger DB and the draft will allow  Defense to become  more balanced on the front and back end.

Really? You wouldn't consider Kalil as a core player?

QB

DE

LT

DT

MLB

In my opinion those are the 5 most important positions in order. Kalil is a top 5 Center but that isn't as key a position as others. Plus he's right at 30 years old & has a very big cap number. He will likely be a casualty in 2-3 years unless he takes a big pay cut. Especially if Silatolu & Kugbilla pan out & the tackle positions have been solidified.

Dave doesn't play games. The days of great Panthers playing into their twilight while making big money are gone. Better get used to rooting for the team & not individual players.

Just turned 29.

Just like baseball   Up the middle is highly important.   Give Cam a crappy center or even a adequate center the Offense Fails.  Kalil is arguably the best center in the game.  EVEN at 29.  Jeff Saturday played at a Pro Bowl level until he was 36.

The argument is whether he will be a cap casualty next year.  NOT A CHANCE.  We'll do everything we can to keep him beyond that time period too.  Whether we make him the top center again, I highly doubt it.   But Kalil will retire as a Panther.  PERIOD

Jeff Saturday SUCKED when he made the Pro Bowl at 36. It was a fan vote retirement bs that got him there. He was one of the worst centers in football that year & got benched by GB.

Kalil did get hurt & he missed 2012, & the offense was better without him than it was this year with him.

He will not be a Panther unless he takes a pay cut. He makes $12mil in '15 & I bet Dave pushes hard to lower that number. In '16 he is due $11mil with only $5mil in dead money. He will be a 31 year old OL with a history of serious leg injuries. I GUARANTEE he will get cut or take a massive cut at that point.

He is not the best center. There are 2-3 guys who are clearly better & another 2-3 who are just as good.

Care to name those centers then?

History of serious leg injuries?  One in how many years.

Saturday Sucks.

Saturday played 13 seasons for the Colts, where he won a Super Bowl ring and was selected to four All-Pro teams and five Pro Bowls. He made his sixth and last Pro Bowl as a member of the Packers.

This conversation is over cause you know jack poo about what you are talking about.

Only Guarantee I see is that you just made a damn fool of yourself by saying Saturday sucks.  Guy has a great chance of being in the Hall of Fame..

Go back to your NINER page cause you damn sure don't know poo about anything else.

    • My projection. I think at WR its time to go with youth. This means Moore should be the odd man out. Horn can return both punts and kicks and Tremayne is a better WR than Moore. XL gets one more year to prove himself, although I could see a trade in the future which would mean Moore could stay. For OL, I would like us to bring back Brady if we can. The RBs, Trevor can return both punts and kicks too. With the uncertainty of Brooks and Dillon, its hard to choose either one. I think the team would like for Brooks to have a breakout season to clear any uncertainty that he deserves a spot. For now, I have them both even and on the team. DL looks solid as well as OLB. Watch out for the UDFA of Aaron Hall and Isaiah Smith at OLB. They look promising and could knock someone off the team. ILB is still the biggest weakness on the team. We need to upgrade that any means necessary. CB is strong and Im praying to all the Gods that Wheatley beats out Scott at FS.  OFFENSE: WR: Tetairoa McMillan - *Chris Brazzell II* - Brycen Tremayne TE: Tommy Tremble - James Mitchell LT: #Rasheed Walker# - *Monroe Freeling* LG: Damien Lewis C- #Luke Fortner# - *Sam Hecht* RG: Robert Hunt - #Saahdiq Charles# RT: Taylor Moton - #Stone Forsythe# TE: Ja`Tavion Sanders - Mitchell Evans WR: Xavier Legette - Jalen Coker - Jimmy Horn Jr. QB: Bryce Young - #Kenny Pickett# RB: Chuba Hubbard - Trevor Etienne - #AJ Dillon# - Jonathon Brooks DEFENSE: LE: Tershawn Wharton - Bobby Brown III  NT: *Lee Hunter* - Cam Jackson RE: Derrick Brown - LaBryan Ray LOLB: Nic Scourton - Patrick Jones II  LILB: Trevin Wallace - Bam Martin-Scott - *Jackson Kuwatch* RILB: #Devin Lloyd# - Claudin Cherrelus  ROLB: #Jaelen Phillips# - Princely Umanmielen LCB: Jaycee Horn - Akayleb Evans RCB: Mike Jackson - *Will Lee III* - Chau Smith-Wade SS: Tre`von Moehrig - Lathan Ransom FS:  Nick Scott - *Zakee Wheatley* - Demani Richardson  SPECIAL TEAMS: K/KO: Ryan Fitzgerald P/H: Sam Martin KR: Trevor Etienne - Jimmy Horn Jr. PR: Trevor Etienne - Jimmy Horn Jr. LS: J.J. Jansen  * = Draft Pick # = Free Agent / Trade () = Undrafted Free Agent
    • His contract is guaranteed.  Legette is just not where he needs to be mentally.  Not fully invested, it seems.
    • Literally like Hill. He's not QB1 material (now or ever), but if we can turn him into a H-back and use him like  Swiss army knife, that's his ticket to make the roster.  H-back/emergency QB.  I wonder how good his hands are?  If they are at least above average by NFL standards then we can line him up in the backfield, in the slot, split out wide and of course, in the Wildcat.
