Agreed. I think DT is being deprioritized or not thought of in as dire of a need as we should be. For me, I want a vet pass rusher instead of another rookie. Throw a bag at Phillips or maybe Hendrickson. Mafe is also a guy I'd look into (cheaper than Philips/Hendrickson) and think he's stuck behind some pretty talented guys in Seattle right now. Same goes for WR - Wan'dale Robinson would be at the top of my list if possible. I would say Pierce or Shaheed, but I think both get re-signed.

Panthers have a Jalen Coker problem.
Navy_football replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, he's played 2 years and never surpassed 500 yards or 3 TDs in a season. He isn't getting top WR money. Just like Bryce wouldn't get top QB money if he was extended. If Coker was extended for $4M average per season, that would be a slight over payment, and I'm sure he'd take it without hesitation. -

So he holds out in 2027 instead? I wouldn’t take that. Panthers are facing a murderers row next season and were already primed to regress anyway. and again, gotta strike while you have leverage. He has it right now and the panthers don’t. -

It's very likely that he and his agent would immediately reject that offer. They would be more likely to reject that offer than they would the exact same deal Shaheed signed. -

I would give him a 3 yr $15M with 12 guaranteed. -

There is little to no chance that the Panthers are going to make NFL history by signing an ERFA to a massive contract or a long term contract. That's not the way ERFA's work. -

I'm really happy that some team didn't scoop him up when Morgan put him on the practice squad. Can you imagine if we had to watch him play for the bucs/falcons/saints? -
Also for Coker this is a great problem to have.
-
I like Jalen Coker, but I think some of you need to pump the brakes a tad. He is in absolutely no position to be demanding a big money contract.

Will likely get a deal similar to Shaheed in NO. Shaheed was a Pro Bowler and more productive overall than Coker has been at the same point in their careers. His deal was 2 years, $6.185 mil in 2024. I wouldn't be surprised to see Coker somewhere around that if not a little more. I would be surprised to see a long term or large deal with this contract. I suspect it will be a short term contract at a low price and his next deal will be the big one(provided he keeps improving). Historically, UDFA's take a lot longer to get their big contracts and generally make significantly less career money for some obvious reasons. -

Coker is going to get PAID. Anyone thinking discount based on the fact that he was undrafted is living in fantasy land. He delivered a Smitty-esq performance in the biggest game this franchise has played in a decade. He has to be priority #1. -

4 years. Then decide which one to trade for a first rounder. The replacement should already be in place by then via draft. -

Probably, yeah. but if you look at the free agent WRs this year (absolutely dire) and what other WRs have gotten (Garrett Wilson lmao) he’s gonna want more. -
I probably won't follow through with this, but if we extend Bryce then I'm out. That is the most pointless stupid decision a team could ever make. At best he is completely replaceable. It makes me mad just to think about it. But I don't think the team is stupid and I don't think they'll do that. But if they do then I'm out.

Wouldn't it be wise to give him a deal that ties him down until they need to offer TMac a new deal, so 3 years? Then they can reevaluate and maybe let him go when they need to offer Tmac big money. -
I'm tuning in just to watch the defensive players. We need someone at every level of the defense.

Yeah no doubt he's our best receiver. We got a diamond just because he played for a small school. We can't let him go, I feel he's the type of dude who goes somewhere and lights it up. -

He is so easy to root for too. Going from UDFA and surpassing a first round pick and (2) second round picks to earn a starting role is exactly what this team needs. If only we had Ladd instead of XL and trotted out TMac-Coker-Ladd our WR room would be complete & top-5 in the league. -

I agree. At the moment he's our best receiver and he should get a new contract fitting his production. Pay the man. -
Idk..... toe tapping inbounds & spacial awareness of the boundaries for a WR is HS level skills....dare I say Jr High. Checking in with an official and being confirmed that you are offsides only to get flagged for not adjusting is also learned way before Sundays at the highest level of sport. I'd reach out to the Jets for Jermaine Johnson and see if XL + an early day 3 pick will bring him back to help our EDGE room.
-
The first two picks should be DT and OT. According to Daniel Jeremiahs top 50 this class is heavy on wr and O line, namely OT. I'm not sure if that helps us with edge rusher in round 1 as he turns around and has only 2 wrs taken in the top 20 with us taking 1 of them when he has 5 ranked in the top 20. He's all over the place with his mock draft so it's hard to take any rankings seriously at the moment.

Jalen is the most productive receiver in the league per routes run. now obviously this is just routes run/total yards and the scheme can play havoc with this calculation but he’s in good company. Puca is number 2. im not sure that x axis is relevant, but my god Metcalf is just getting mugged. Per next gen stats Jalen reached the top speed in the playoffs. Newton’s first law of motion stays winning. Coker was also the best looking player on the field against the rams. To me he looks just like a young anquan boldin. Coker made just over 830k in 2025. He is an Exclusive rights free agent in 2026. This means if the panthers tender him with a one year contract based on the league minimum, he has to play here or nowhere else. He’s not allowed (wink wink) to negotiate with other teams In 2025 the ERFA was 1.03 million, or 3.1% what Joe person claims Bryce Young is worth annually. three years is the cutoff to become vested in the NFL pension, with higher benefits per year accrued after that. For those that have never heard of a pension, back in the day before boomers “two in the heart, one in the head’d” future generations, your job handled your retirement. Three years of service also unlocks a whopping five years of health insurance; big deal for a player who still qualifies for his parents coverage. Great system, NFL. Roman gladiators were treated better. Electro, I just became a fan when Bryce got here and I can only name three people on the team. Why does this matter? NFL players don’t make money for very long. 40% never get a second contract. A season ending injury can happen at any moment, especially when your qb is a blimp commander who can’t see over the offensive line. Ickey was in line for a massive payday that he absolutely earned. He lost generational wealth (Chris rock joke here) with that patellar injury and who knows if he’ll ever play the same again. He’s certainly not going to get that new contract which is rough but it’s the way things go. Coker absolutely should not play another down for the Carolina panthers without a new contract. He just had a huge coming out on the national stage and has the numbers and tape to back it up. He's the best wide receiver on the team. Yes I know tet got (a very chintzy) thousand yards but Coker is pound for pound the better player. And that’s saying something because Jalen loves him some orange chicken. If he was a free agent this year he’d be the top WR on the market. Panthers have a lot of (honestly very easy) cap choices to make. For whatever reason they’ve already verbally committed to Bryce’s fifth year and are floating a three year extension. They’ve started hemorrhaging offensive linemen, soul of the team JJ Jansen will need his 1.4 million if he comes back, and of course you gotta lock down Leadership Council stalwart Christian Rozeboom. I would argue that instead of giving the worst qb in the league over the past three years another fuging dime you lock up and reward Jalen Coker. This shows the rest of the team that production is valued, regardless of draft position, and keeps Jalen in the building and team training program. Again, Jalen likes to eat. Will the panthers recognize this? I wish I could say the panthers head coach is good at evaluating wide receivers but….yeah. Also Canales let him clear waivers to begin with. Anyway Jalen should be the top contract priority fug Bryce fug Canales Hail Satan

The padded practice restrictions have definitely impacted the game. 14 padded practices during the 18 weeks season and no more than one per week. That's crazy to me. But... As for Legette, he probably is in the best place possible to learn under those restrictions. But drills will only go so far. And it really isn't drills for him. It's knowing all the little intricancies of how to be a WR. That only comes from game experience, in my opinion. Being put in different situations at game speed. Hopefully he puts everything into this offseason. I'm cheering for him. This team needs him.
