Alexander predicts we get Garoppolo or Mayfield
pantherj replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm fine with either QB for low round picks and a one year prove it deal. No problem. Neither QB is our long term answer, and we are only 1 year away from the wonderful 2023 QBs in the draft. -
Josh Norris on Panthers 1st round plans
pantherj replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Draft a LT and roll with Sam. We win a 2023 high draft pick if Sam poops the bed. We have our franchise QB if Sam plays well enough to push us way down 2023 the draft. Win-win. If we trade the 1st round 2023 draft pick, then I will leave the forum until Rhule is fired. -
Josh Norris on Panthers 1st round plans

So long as we don't trade the 2023 1st round pick we'll be fine. We can recover from any other blunder. Jimmy G would be a stop gap QB who would be cut like the rest as soon as we drafted a 2023 QB. -
I just don't want a QB. Take Neal and I'm happy.

KC looking to trade up into top 10.
pantherj replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think we should stay put and draft a LT. The way I see it we should be building our line for the 2023 QB we draft after Darnold poops the bed in 2022. If Darnold plays well, the we can stick with him. There are two ways to screw up our future. 1.) Trade away our 2023 1st round pick. 2.) Draft a poop QB in this draft, and stick with him in 2023. As long as we don't do 1 or 2 the future looks bright. -
I know why the Eagles made the trade. What the hell are the Saints doing? That 2023 1st round pick is gold.

I tried to listen but they started out talking about whatever, so I'll wait for summary. -
Rhule says giving CMC fewer reps at RB diminishes his value
pantherj replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I never wanted Sam here in the first place. I said it was a terrible idea from the start. We have a GM who is saying that Sam is going to make a big leap this season, so I'm taking his expertise into consideration in giving Sam a remote chance of improving. -
Another thing I would add is that he needs to develop a mean streak and play more with a chip on his shoulder. He's kind of a dancing bear but a little too finesse, and sometimes I just want him to turn into this mauling ogre. He's just not that guy.
-
He tends to struggle at times with big DEs when they bull rush. He's not quite as powerful as you'd think he would be for a guy his size. His selling point is his excellent precise technique, quick hands and feet, getting into his set fast, timing when he shoots his hands perfectly, hand fighting, attention to detail, and some other great qualities. When it comes down to pure power in a dogfight with a big DE he doesn't dominate like you would hope given his mammoth size.
-
I'm hoping that is the case.
-
Neal has a lot of great qualities. My only complaint is that he doesn't anchor as well against a big DE's bull rush as you'd expect for his size. Other than that I'm really impressed with Neal. I expect Neal to be off the board when we pick at 6.

I'd rather not restructure when we're already in a bad situation. We don't even have a decent QB, so even if we select a rookie we'll have a bad season. Why not take our medicine now?
-
This isn't something that concerns me at all at this point. We did a lot of restructuring and the cap is expected to rise next season. What bothers me is that we don't have a QB, and could use a LT as well. We have Fitt and Rhule trying to find the next QB, and neither of them have a good track record. To compound the problem the 2022 rookie QB crop doesn't have a clear standout player. If you're worrying about the cap at this point I don't know what to say.

Most teams lose because they don't know why they lost.

Most coaches pick bad QBs because they don't know they're bad QBs. See dummies all around. -
I think if Neal or Ekw are there at 6 we should pull the trigger. Imo Seattle is targeting Cross, so he will not go lower than 9th.

Rhule says giving CMC fewer reps at RB diminishes his value
pantherj replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
How I would use CMC depends on how Sam looks in 2022. If Sam makes a huge leap, then I'm using the hell out of CMC to try and make playoffs. If he dies, he dies. If Sam poops the bed again, then I'd move CMC around and limit his touches. No need to run him into the ground for a lost pointless season. -
Rhule: Sam Darnold will take a huge step this year
pantherj replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
The 2022 QBs look like they'll be backups in the NFL in the long run. They're only being talked about as 1st rounders because it's a bad QB crop, and teams are extremely thirsty for QBs. I like Pickett the best out the bunch, but he's a project that might not pan out. -

Sam is NOT getting another contract unless he balls out this season. Slight improvement is not good enough for another contract. We pull the trigger on a 2023 rookie if Sam doesn't show franchise QB ability in 2022.
