Gregg Bell @gbellseattle · Feb 8 Official NFL transactions: #Seahawks release backup guard Chance Warmack. He opted out of last season after signing because of COVID-19 reasons

with the salary cap situation, some good players are going to get cut early. We won't be big shoppers, but we need a thread to keep track of who just became available. Saints in particular are clearing space right now. Saints cut OL Easton, TEs Jason Vanderlaan and Cole Wick. https://nfltraderumors.co/saints-cut-ol-nick-easton-te-jason-vander-laan-te-cole-wick/ #Eagles WR and TE Room expected to look different @NBCSports are projecting Marquise Goodwin, DeSean Jackson, and TE Zach Ertz to be Salary Cap Casualties to save the team 21M #NFL Giants cut WR DaMari Scott and DB Shakiel Taylor https://nfltraderumors.co/giants-waive-wr-damari-scott-db-shakial-taylor/

This is timestamped over a day ago, but I didn't see a thread on it. Looks like Brugler did the mock, then each team's beat writer comments on their pick. Jets went with Wilson, then we trade up Carolina Panthers receive: 2021 first-round pick (No. 3 overall) Miami Dolphins receive: 2021 first-round pick (No. 8 overall) 2021 third-round pick 2021 fifth-round pick 2022 first-round pick Carolina Panthers (via MIA) — Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State The Panthers’ ownership and front office have made it known that they plan to be aggressive this offseason in upgrading the quarterback position. They missed out on Matthew Stafford, and Deshaun Watson remains a long shot, making the draft their best opportunity. Instead of sitting at No. 8 and hoping a quarterback falls to them, they out-bid other teams and go and get their guy in this mock. Fields needs time, but all the talent is there for him to develop into Carolina’s answer at the position. | Beat writer analysis: Joe Person’s reaction to the trade and pick behind a paywall but here is the required link. https://theathletic.com/2378777/2021/02/11/nfl-mock-draft-zach-wilson-justin-fields-trey-lance/?source=weeklyemail

just a weird game, most of the guys who look the best for us didn't tonight, but we still had guys like Rozier show up to give us the win. One stat that helped....19 for 19 from the free throw line, and we needed every one. 20 freaking turnovers is the worst part. For a small ball team, we've got to do better than that. This looks like one of those games where a young team read too many good things about them in the media and didn't play hard enough. But enough talent to get a win.
-
not at our best tonight, same old flaws plus very sloppy passes and not shooting as well as we normally do. And still lead. Got a ways to go, but this team has pieces.
-
Timberwolves are one of the worst teams in the league. This should be one of our easiest games till we play them again as the last game of the first half of the season. We should win, and hopefully, can get our starters in a groove then give the younger guys some time for experience.

post of the month. also, ESPN's lead story on their front page is about LaMelo. It's behind their paywall, but it says "This is more than we could have expected from LaMelo Ball. our experts dive into Ball's game and what comes next for the standout rookie." Now that he's starting, I think he'll put up stats that will make him the runaway winner of ROY.

Panthers begin their scouting process
Captain Morgan replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
good post, we really need another good draft, but I guess we're in the same boat with everybody else. Rhule may still have knowledge of some players from his college days. -

btw The Jump on ESPN just called the Hornets "must see tv" with Lamelo. Although I have seen every game with any problems, I understand the irony.

Houston tonight...we're coming off a good win just one day before. Should have enough legs with all our young backcourt guys. Houston is interesting...they are 7-4 since they traded for Oladipo. This game could be a tough one. Can we hit the 3 like we did yesterday?

really weird to see the defending Super Bowl champs act like they've never been there before.

gotta love a Super Bowl goal line stand.

did they hire David Newton?

The Saints are facing discipline from the league office for violating COVID-19 safety policies, according to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport. This marks the third such violation for Sean Payton & Co., so the punishment is likely to be even larger. Between the two previous penalties, the Saints have already been docked $750K plus the forfeiture of a seventh-round pick. The latest flag stems from a late-season incident in which running back Alvin Kamara came in contact with a COVID-19 positive person at the team facility. That person was not employed by the Saints, even though non-team personnel have been barred from entering this season. When Kamara contracted the coronavirus, the timing couldn’t have been worse. Forced out of the season finale, Kamara still finished the year with an NFL-high 21 TDs. Meanwhile, several other Saints RBs were forced out of Week 17, putting increased attention on the Saints and their protocols. Interestingly, Kamara himself was not an innocent party in this. According to Jeff Duncan of The Athletic, Kamara’s refusal to wear a contract-tracing device was a problem all season, so the club had no way to trace his close contacts after he tested positive (Twitter link). The league’s investigation into the latest alleged violation could presumably lead to discipline for Kamara as well as the Saints. The Saints project to have four, or possibly five, selections in the 2021 draft. Currently, they have only their first-, second-, and fourth-round picks. However, they are slated receive a pair of third-round compensatory picks for hiring Terry Fontenot and losing Teddy Bridgewater. In the coming days, the Saints could wind up losing more from their stockpile. some more stuff in the link. https://www.profootballrumors.com/2021/02/saints-facing-covid-19-discipline It's amazing how that organization can't follow the rules. Anybody could mess up once with all the new rules regarding the virus, but after being fined and losing a draft pick, they couldn't get Kamara to follow the rules, so they did nothing and sure enough, he and other rbs had to miss a game. Amazing.

Hornets blow out Washington, led by 29 at one point. Nick Richards got into the game.
-
early game today, Washington at 1 pm

may deserve a new thread

and finally

and he's only 19.

once again, the Hornets will not give up. They are relentless like the "Jake from State Farm" commercials, and whatever that commercial is that has the classical/opera song about a car with food on the roof.

Hornets jumped out to a double digit lead, then fell behind in the 2nd quarter, and at the half are behind by 15. Graham pulled up with a non-contact injury and went to the locker room. Waiting to see what's up with that. The last two games have shown we need a big man to be a true contender.
